First Congrats to Bulldog Baseball for winning the AA Invitational this past weekend. Also congrats to Georgia Select, the Atlanta Thunder and the 8U Atlanta Angels for their participation. The Bulldogs, Thunder and the Select went 1-1 in pool play.
In the first semi-final the Select played against the 9U Angels. The Angels took a 3-0 lead at the end of two innings. In the top of the third the Select scored two runs, but the Angels respond in the bottom with two more runs. The Select score three runs in top of fifth inning to tie the score and hold the Angels scoreless in the bottom of the fifth. In the top of the last inning, a single, a dropped third strike occur before the Angels intentionally walk a batter to load the bases with no outs. Two strike outs in a row and a ground out to first end the threat with no runs scoring. In the bottom of the last inning, after a ground out, an error allows a base runner. The Angels cleanup hitter bashes a fly ball over the left fielder's head to win the game. Great Game!
In the second semi-final the Thunder battled against the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs score one in the first and the Thunder respond with three runs in the first. After a scoreless second, the Bulldogs put up two more runs in the top of the third to tie the score at three. Both of the teams go scoreless in the next two innings and the game goes into the tie breaker as time expires. In the top of the tie breaker the Bulldogs explode for six runs and the Thunder can only bounce back with two as the Bulldogs win 9-5 in another very exciting game.
In the Championship game between the Bulldogs and the Angels, the Angels are held scoreless in the top of the first. The Bulldogs score five runs with three hits, two walks and an error in the bottom of the first. Both teams score a run in the second with the Bulldogs leading after two 6-1. A pitcher's duel takes place for the next three innings as neither team can muster a run. In the top of the last inning the Angels scratch out two more runs but fall short and the Bulldogs win the Championship 6-3 over the Angels.
Again congratulations to the Bulldog Baseball family, a class act and a well deserved victory. And also congrats to the Georgia Select and Atlanta Thunder also class acts and very good teams. And congrats to the 8U Atlanta Angels who were playing their first 9U tourney against some excellent teams and took their lumps. Thanks also to the Bulldogs and Select for their classy way of handling playing against the 8U. Also thanks to FourSeamDawg for bringing up the fundraiser. It's the third annual tourney and one of the first times it's been brought up after the tourney was over |
