Interesting that when you sign up for a tournament that says..."Max teams 8!" ...then all of a sudden "we can take 12" then.... up to 16 teams....and so on. Doesn't seem fair to the teams that signed up first for a specific type of tournament, does it? Should you be able to get your money back? Same when a tourney says AAA, then all of a sudden...there's 4 majors teams in it.... I am all for good competition, but the point of signing up for certain types of tournaments is because of the way they are sold, right? |

tough to argue with that logic.
More teams = more money so there is no doubt the reason behind the expansion of these tourneys. |

Bigger tournament usually means they will split into 2 brackets as well, so you get to play for a trophy in a bracket close to your skill level. Also, as one of those "majors" teams, we did not make that determination ourselves, USSSA randomly assigned us to that level. There were 3 majors and 6 AAA (according to USSSA) teams in our tournament this weekend but the competition was very even. |

I am not sure what tourney you are talking about last weekend, I am talking about future tournaments we have signed up for. I obviously understand you are assigned your level. I think our level is wrong either way on any given day...ha ha! I am just saying it is frustrating when you expect one type of tourney...and end up with another. (sometimes longer and on different fields than promised as well) |

gafan,
You make an excellent point. Typically what is going on is a TD secures "x" number of fields and figures he can then host "y" number of teams. The tourney fills up and his phone starts ringing with folks now wanting in. He looks at it like the more the merrier, so he begins pounding the pavement to see if he can find more fields. If he's successful, he opens it up to "z" number of teams, and so on. I doubt that anyone really looked at it from your perspective of wanting to play in a smaller tournament. It's a good point. Maybe in the future, email the TD in advance and ask that he commit to the limit of teams or guarantee you a refund (in writing) if he expands and you wish to withdraw. |

It could also be that the TD is paying for X number of fields that will allow for X number of games. A couple of the age brackets does not max out so he expands another age group in which there are teams wanting to enter. Personally, I'm one of those "the more the merrier" type guys. I always prefer more teams but I understand what you're saying also. |
