This year the level of competition in the 8u KP division is STRONG! Last year the Angels were a clear favorite, but this year there are a lot more teams and looks to be more competitive. My opinion no one will go undefeated. By what you have seen so far in Fall and early Spring, what do you think? Top 5 in no particular order?

My top and they are all very close:

Acworth Warriors
Atl Angels
Cherokee Reds
ECB Stallions
Mill Creek
6-4-3 DP

I agree in 8U KP being very strong. I see the top 30% of the teams being good enough to beat each other any given day. This will be a very competitive season in 8U KP, which is all that anyone could ever ask for to help develop these young ball players. I would keep your eye out for Dacula as well.....we have scrimmaged them and they are deep with pitchers and getting better by the week.

Yeah I heard they were going to be a team to watch out for, it's going to be fun to watch! This weekend there is 14 teams playing and almost half of them its their first 2012 tournament. The March 2-4 Triple Crown tournament at ECB is looking to be a strong tournament! Best of the best so far, it's loaded with probably the top 8 in age group. You should enter that one and get the Falcons to enter as well.

Who is your Top 5 so far?

Now that the schedule is out what are your thoughts?
Hear Mill Creek has great defense, EC Mets has new look from the fall, Dacula looks strong based on last weeks performance, and ATL. Angels will always play great and should be there at the end.

I'm interested to see the Falcons and Angels play. They looked like the top two teams from last week but didn't get to settle it on the field.

My opinion based on seeing 85% of these teams already

1.643
2.Mill Creek
3.Atl Angels

I still think next weeks Triple Crown Tournament is the one that will be interesting. Its loaded! Great warm-up for Super NIT

I'm still sticking to my first post but I haven't seen the 8u Yard Dogs and I heard they are loaded as well.

I am one of the coach's with MC Elite. March 2-4 is an off weekend for us due to a fund raiser event we have that is to big to miss or else we would be there. We will be back at it on the weekend of the 10th and looking forward to the NIT the following week. Us and 6 4 3 will be a fun game and so will Atl Angels and Dacula game. 6 4 3 and HP Chili dogs will be a good one too. Crazy how you can end up with 3 teams in a pool with power ratings over 1000 like pool B. Why not let us beat each other up in bracket play. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Parks this season.

I would really like to see 6 4 3 and Cherokee Reds before making judgement on top 5. Stay tuned.

Yeah 643 vs Mill Creek will be a fun one to watch, but no disrespect to the Falcons but I still think the top 4 out that first tournament if that tournament finish bracket play and in no order was...

Acworth
Angels
ECB Stallions
MC Elite

None of those teams were playing their best in pool play, bracket play would have been when they really showed up, JMO

643 is solid and the Reds will be a team to watch out for but during the fall all those north teams were battling out and those were some good games. They are all playing more of the Triple Crown tournaments up there. They don't seem to care about all that points stuff! The Super NIT and the WS is probably the only other times you will see teams like Jackhammers, Stallions, Reds, 643 and Warriors other than the Triple Crown Tournaments and some East Cobb tournaments.

With a tournament and a half down looks like some teams got better and some teams took a step backwards. Just to show you how STRONG the 8u KP is this season. Season is way to early to really make judgement on the top teams with so many teams that still has not even played a Tournament yet. So just by what I saw this weekend and again this is my opinion and its a Message/Discussion board so lets keep this going, my top (no particular order) changed a little...

6-4-3 DP
Sandlot Sluggers (they got the pitchers)
Acworth Warriors
Cherokee Reds
ECB Stallions
Jackhammers

Looks like this weekend coming up 3/2-3/4 Triple Crown will be a STRONGEST competitive tournament yet and get to see the rest of the teams except for Hobgood, looks like they are waiting until the Super NIT. I bet that after seeing the competition this year so far the top list will change every week! This is going to be a fun season!

After seeing two weekends of tournaments, I believe it is safe to say that 8u KP will be very exciting and competitive this year. There are about 12 teams that can beat anyone in a given tournament. The February frost last weekend was a warm up. The atlanta Angels, Acwoth Warriors, Dacula Falcons, Mill Creek, and East Cobb Stallions looked to stand out above the rest. This week in the Can of Corn Classic, 6-4-3, NC Angels, Sandlot Sluggers, Home Plate Chilidogs, Walton Wolves, and MGBX Bulldogs rose to the Top while Dacula Falcons, and Mill Creek were winless and the Atlanta Angels were knocked out early on Sunday. I believe this year will be very exciting to see these teams battle it out.

From the teams that I have seen the last two weekends, my top 12 (a lot of teams very evenly matched) in no particular order would be:

Acworth Warriors
6-4-3 DP
NC Angels
Sandlot Sluggers
Walton Wolves
Mill Creek
MGBX Bulldogs
Atlanta Angels
East Cobb Stallions
Home Plate Chilidogs
East Cobb Mets
Dacula Falcons

Right now 6-4-3 and Acworth look to be the top 2 and the other 10 are very evenly matched.

Are there any 8u KP teams South of Atlanta other than Sandlot Sluggers. Looks like just about all of 8u kp is from Locust Grove and North.

My Way to Early Top 5 (Will probably change weekly)

Acworth Warriors
6-4-3 DP
Sandlot Sluggers
NC Angels
Walton Wolves

y'all played good this past weekend! See you signed up to play in the Summer Nationals as well, that sounds like a great tournament and a good out of state tournament for this age. So far out of the 2 this year so far whats your top 5? Of course we know its to early but its fun to do it and look back at the end of the season.

The pool play is out for the Triple Crowne tournament this coming weekend and it looks like the early picks for top teams are not going to be able to save the top arms during pool play like they have in the eariler 2 tournaments. Strong tournament!

Like to see how Fuision does in KP and see if the Reds and Jackhammers have grown.

8U is a super stacked division. At any give time, any of 10-12 teams can win or lose. The team that has the first good offensive inning will win 90% of the time. I'm looking forward to seeing teams play this weekend....and then on into the NIT.

My top 10 right now would be. This is based on seeing or knowing several of these teams. Not in order either.

1. 643 DP
2. Acworth Warriors
3. Elite Gamers
4. Cherokee Reds
5. East Cobb Stallions
6. Mill Creek
7. Hobgood Hawks
8. GA Jackhammers
9. NC Angels
10. Sandlot Sluggers

Wish the Triple Crown Tournament would have kept playing this weekend. Would have been interesting to see how it played out. Also heard the new Fusion team shut out Acworth in the first 2 innings which is interesting. Can't wait to see what happens in the NIT in a couple weeks.

Yeah I agree! I was going to go watch the bracket play today but looks like the older age groups bumped the 8u. Now the word is there is a USSSA tournament schedule at East Cobb this coming weekend and all the teams that were entered in the Triple Crown Spring Frost are going to enter it this week so they can finish what they have started. More info will be out tomorrow. If true I hope Dacula, Elite, NC Angels and Fusion decides to play as well. I know Mill Creek and 7 other teams are going to sign up.

Travel for Life -- What tournament are you referring to? I see that a few of the teams you mention have signed up for the Southeastern NIT but that's down in Stockbridge which should be a good one. Is there another one you are referring to? With the event being cancelled last weekend, I'm sure some of the teams will want to get some reps in a tournament this coming weekend prior to the Super NIT!

I heard the Cherokee Reds are strong on pitching and defense. They threw a perfect game on the Stallions. Literally, no hits or walks and this was the first game up. If this a sign of what's coming, 8U is going to be real tough.

Yeah I heard the same thing, WOW! Wish I was there but couldn't make it until Sunday. I have seen the Stallions play in 2 tournaments this young Fall/Spring season and the first tournament it was the other way around, Stallions showed up and the Reds didn't. Just shows that this year anyone of the 8u teams can beat any of the other 8u teams.

What I heard is the Reds are a top 2 team behind 643 this season. Can't wait until the Super NIT!

6-4-3 and Reds are made up mostly of kids from Sandy Plains and Hobgood Heat, and they were the two best 7U Dizzy Dean teams last summer, so that would make sense.

strike throwers are key. it doesnt hurt to have a couple that can bring it 50 plus from 40'. walks will kill you at this age group. also kids with a short approach to the ball from the batters box. the ball will be getting to the batter in a hurry so quick hands are a must. a long looping swing will be exposed, and your batter will not catch up to the ball.
