The reclassification list is out. According to my calculations there are 36 major teams listed. I realize that a few are no longer together but what a great start. There are still about 5 elite teams but the next group would allow some parity in the division and keep teams from asking to be sent back to AAA. Any thoughts ? |

We got mocc'd! We're going to take the plunge, but the reality is the Nats will really need to step up in order to show well in that group.

Ouch. I guess our stunning .536 winning percentage at AAA was considered "trophy hunting and sandbagging" to the USSSA folks! The Sharks had planned to mix in some Majors/Open tourneys with our AAA schedule this year anyway but now I guess they have taken care of that for us. I agree with Moccs. There are going to be 5 or 6 teams that can win any week and then a bunch of us in the middle/bottom. Do you think tourneys will go to a gold/silver bracket more often now with this many teams available? |

Simple solution would be to not play any Utrip tournaments. Unless your goal is to make it to the elite 32 there is no reason to.

Andy, I was a little shocked that they bumped yall up so soon since you were basically aa half of last year. A few more teams may change once rosters are posted. I noticed a few that have changed names that are listed aaa but once published should also move to major. I think 36 is a few too many for major but definitely like the new mix. I think the sharks can compete with most of the teams in the majors. If you look at most of the teams in majors outside of the top 5 -- not many have records above 500 in the class. I hope they do consider the gold/silver option more this year similar to triple crown. |

You guys should keep in mind that as your teams move up in age groups what is the top 15-20% of teams changes year to year. So if you move up to 12U and you are in the top 15-20% of those teams then why wouldn't you want to play in that group? 12U Majors is not going to be what 11U Majors was last year. And that's true every year as you ascend the age groups. Besides, your kids will get better by playing better competition and they just might surprise you!

Just an observation but way different than Florida Utrip but I must say much fairer and organized. Kudos to Georgia Utrip and the teams competing. |

We are playing up in 13u and playing open TC tournaments this year anyway, so the only real downside is we can't play in the two AAA tournaments we've already signed up for. We lose some scheduling flexibility that was not anticipated, but it won't really change what we do that much. As a coach, if you see your team getting waxed playing up a level, it's nice to be able to schedule a level appropriate tournament periodically to energize the troops. We can still do that, just not with USSSA tournaments. Hopefully we won't feel the need to do it. The fact we have so many teams in the same boat as us makes it more palatable. Personally, I relish the challenge, and we're already talking about what we need to do differently to make sure the boys get what they need to compete. |

The bottom line is you all are bleseed to play in such a dense competitive environment either way. We play in an arena where 3 to 4 teams have coaches that think they are top dog and nobody else can compete with them. While that may be the case them blowing everyone out does not make for condusive tournament play. When in reality those teams last year did not dominate. Will be nice to see who from our parts of the state step up. There will be some surprises in store for sure. Just wish we had the pure amount of teams you have. It is obvious that Baseball is well and alive in the Peach State. |

We will play the Atlanta SNIT as a major (though sucks to pay more for that classification since we don't plan to pursue E32 bid), but we now will not go out of state to play another SNIT. |

SSBuckeye,
I know nothing of your team. I hope you win it. I can tell you this as a coach in this age group three times over. You never know at 12u what is going to happen even with solid major teams.
I am sure you will motivate and inspire the boys like any good coach would in your shoes. |

We haven't decided what to do yet with the Super NIT. We had already registered as a AAA team but not sure we want to have that be our first Majors tourney. We are looking forward to the opportunity of increased competition however and the boys are very excited. 7 of our 10 players have been together since the old Dizzy Dean all-stars days and it has been a very cool progression to watch. Good luck to everyone and see you on the ball field very soon! |

Speaking of AAA teams, and not to single anyone out, I'm curious why, for example, someone like the Chain Gang is listed as a 12U AAA team and is registered to play in the 12U AAA super NIT, when Chain Baseball got moved up to Majors in the reclassification (and Chain Gang seems to have 8 members of Chain Baseball on its roster). Shouldn't they have registered as a Majors team under USSSA rules becaues they have more than 6 returning players or did they get a waiver of some sort? Or maybe I'm confused on this rule. |

Bluecup,
Not sure on the initial roster, but I do know that they have lost a few kids to homeplate, one to ECB, and a couple of others so I don't think they have that many returning. Not sure what the new kids were classified, but they certainly were a strong AAA if not major last year and in the fall. |

My question is -- with 30 something teams in the "major" division why is usssa only allowing 24 teams to register for the Atlanta S-NIT? We all know there is at least another 10-15 "major" teams coming from out of state to play. Doesn't make any since??????? If you adjust one thing(reclassification of major teams) common since tells me you should adjust the amount of major teams to play in the Atlanta S-NIT??? Just sayin.....

From what I see there is already 29 signed up and it says the max teams are 32 on the info page.

They took away slots from the other 12 u classifications to make them. Look at them and they are reduced compared to other ages. |

yes they did and look at the field of teams coming! Team Florida who won elite 32 last yr and was the best team in the country, stealth, braves and a bunch of others. Some very good teams won't make it to bracket play, pool match ups will be key. |
