Actually, only four of the eleven losses as recorded by USSSA last year were to the Bandits, Team Fl., and the Astros. Not quite a majority.quote: Originally posted by Arnie66
As informed the majority fo the losses were to Team FL, Bandits and the Astros, so eliminating those losses, the rest in comparison are a joke. Also, they dealt with numerous injury and continued delisional parents that caused turmoil. Again, as informed those problems are no longer part of the program. I was told that they registered as AAA for the fall to have the opportunity to have access to more fall events, so as to not run teams off. They have been re-classified as Major and expect to again make a run at the Elite 32 based on the retention of the core players and the addition of multiple hihg level players/athletes.

On 11/5/11, it looks like the coach of the 13U Diamond Kings said he was looking for players for a AA/AAA team for 2012. Now either he's sandbagging or he doesn't believe they are a major team. |

Papa is wondering what in the heck has happened to the forum. At one time this was the most interesting and vocal groups of all time. I used to get goose bumps posting and reading the answers and now I can't even get a rise out of our most hated but respected rivals. I guess that our guys are now 13 years old and need to be more laid back. I get more excited reading the nursing home newsletter than I have lately reading this forum. Wake the heck up, you have been called out. |

Kenny, You can sell all that snake oil you want down there in South Georgia but it don't go over that well in the "Big City". On paper the 13u Bandits should be stronger than last year and they have really looked good during our camps but I have preached for years that the game is not played on paper and must be won on the field. I expect the bigger fields, bigger outfield gaps, longer infield throws, mounds further back and most of all bigger kids to even the field out. |

What you will see this year will be some separation between teams who are well coached and those that have accumulated athletes and have just let them play in the past. (Not having any team in mind when I say this.).
You will see more games lost due to one team being "Out-coached" by the other team, than in the past. The ability to adjust your game plan as a game or tournament goes on becomes even more important.
It is a fun year to watch them play and start learning the strategy of baseball. |

As informed the PH Diamond Kings will all be reconized under the same name just different players, coaches, manager, and levels. The 13 year old team that is registered for the Slugfest is the AA/AAA team, not the major team, as there are two 13 year old teams. That being the case the information that I responded to was accurate as the Major team will not be playing to date. Guess the field lucked out. |

Greetings from North Carolina, home to at least 3 of the best teams in the county last year. Just when you thought the Dirtbags would go away, they have added a couple of new playuers and should be pretty strong again. The Canes will be a contender in any tournament they enter and will dominate most teams easily. And the Cubs look as solid as ever, albeit a little confusing sometimes who they lose to. As for GA ball, I would not dethrone the Bandits until someone beats them on the field. I agree that this is the time when coaching can outweigh a better team to a degree. I am ready to get this thing started. Our team, Longhorns baseball plans on competing with these teams mentioned, but plans sometimes do not work out!!! Play Ball!!! |

Good to hear from you OXBBlue: I can testify that the North Carolina Teams can play with the best of them. It's teams like yours that make it fun to play the game. I have been hearing some rumbling from your neck of the country and have been told to expect some stiff competition and I know the boys can't wait to get on the field with your guys again. It's beginning to develop into quite a little rivalry which only makes things more exciting. Hope to see you soon and Good Luck till then. |

There are 2 13u Teams at Pure Hitting Academy. The 13u Major team and 13u AA team. The AA team is a new team formed this year that hopes to move up and compete at the AAA level. Good Luck to everyone and Hope all have a Great year ! |

One Astros did play with them for the first half of the Fall season. 1-4 batters have been with Waters since day one. 1,2 and 4 played in the Gwinnett league last year while Waters found the 3 hole hitter playing single A ball to start last season. From what I hear the kid battered Sandtown pitching all over Memphis last summer. Don't let me discount the rest of the team they have two lefty pitchers and are as athletic as any team that I have seen. They did lose 3 players all of which were backups, although one was an excellent location pitcher with a great hook. Two of the kids that left have reaappeared on the Gwinnett Elite, but I'm not sure where the other kid ended up. The message that I kept getting is that this group loves to play together and as long as know egos erupt the Stars will have a high ceiling.
Can't wait
I did a little checking around on my own in Gwinnett and learned the two players that left the Stars and showed up at Gwinnett Elite were a little more than backups. I was told one pitched only on Sundays during the Fall for the Stars and was one of their top pitchers and the other batted at the top of the lineup for Gwinnett Elite who split with the Stars in the Fall ( 8-7, 0-1 ). However as far as my rankings, I still believe the Stars will be in the top 5 if they can build chemistry and stop turnover. I also believe Homeplate Black is not getting near enough respect for what they accomplished last Spring winning the majority of the Major Tournaments they entered. That said, here is how I would rank them. (1. Bandits 2. Astros 3. Homeplate 4. Cougers 5. Stars 6. Pride 7. Tigers 8. Jackets N 9. Titans 10. Gwinnett Elite) |

Did some more fact finding... To clarify one player did start near the top of the lineup in September, however by the time he left for the Elite he was a solid backup. The other was a pitcher with what has been described as a nasty hook. He left because he was not going to crack the lineup in the field. Both are said to be good ball players and kids. The reality in net is that the Stars picked up three kids that would push those young men down the bench. The GA Stars as put together today are at least two to three runs better than the team that played the Elite. I can't speak for the Elite's improvement, but they picked up kids that would not be everyday starters in the Stars' lineup.

Your entitled to your opinion of any team's roster. Although at the end of the day, thats all it is, another dad's opinion of his son and his favorite team. The only real facts to determine which roster is better is that the Stars and Elite split the Fall and only 1 run separated them in both games. The Spring determines who are the best teams in East Cobb and Gwinnett and we get to enjoy watching the boys play baseball while thats being decided! I hope your son and the Stars have a great season!
