11UFAN, can you enlighten us all? Don't plan on paying a subscription fee on TBS to read their forum on this MLK tourney. What is the net of the discussion? |

Way, way, way over the top pre-tourney hype, I would even say vile. Sounded like coaches were over the top too. They lost in Semi's and parents got into and/or threatened physical altercations with two different teams. Also calling out parents to the parking lot to "take care of it". Apparently one was with a mom throwing a punch at a dad from the opposing team. There were multiple posts confirming this, several were apparently from supporters of this team justifying all of this. It sounded like it was a very toxic atmosphere and it was all swirling around this team.
Remember this was a huge tourney with several "nationally ranked" teams. This team swept through the 4 pool games and was number 1 seed. They beat some very good teams and it appears that they are a very, very good team. This was in So. Cal so there is alot of anamosity with this team and their coach.

Must be something in the air! Both coasts having issues in National tournaments. Hearing rumblings that Clearwater had two top team coaches almost come to blows. Anyone hear details? |

FLABB,
Looks like we all need a good dose of civility. Abner, Babe, Mickey, Gerigh ect.. ect... would be disgusted. Tourney directors need to start holding teams accountable by banning teams that behave this way. Totally ridiculous and unacceptable. |

This is post from Calif_Baseball from the 11U postings:
I can only say this. JK and Phenom is not long for Baseball. What happened at SNIT is a disgrace and emberrassment for both teams. One of our dads took a video of it. All I can say is Unbelievable.

Newsflash: A coach from the Stealth and CFG had a run in after the semis in Clearwater, Fla. Appears comments were exhanged and officials had to restrain both parties. Not good for the kids to see not to mention children in the stands. Can't we live in baseball harmony? |

Not surprising. When winning is so important to coaches that they spend that amount of time and money recruiting players, they are prone to become much more "emotional" when they win or lose. Especially when it appears they were both recruiting some of the same kids. |

This is starting to become way too common every weekend with these young age groups. Why do the tournament directors allow this to continue? Better question, why do the parents of the kids on these teams not remove them from that environment immediately after. If your son's teacher acted like that in the classroom it would be on the 6 o'clock news and they would be fired that same day. If these nutbags are getting this riled up over a kids game then they are in it for the wrong reasons. Time for the tournament organizers to step in and stiffen the penalties for this behavior. |

Cody Webster was the next great thing back in 1982. He won the little league world series and I don't even know if he made his HS team.
It is 12U Baseball! |

Cody Webster did make his high school team and went on to play at Eastern Washington University...but that is irrelevant....get on one team and play (quit trying to rush your kid to be the next MLB player - it aint happening). Kids need to play with their friends - no need to rush them through life - this includes those who think they must play their child 3 ages up because he is the next great 10 year old). If parents spent as much time reading to their kids as they did on baseball they would be doing them a favor (every kid playing travel baseball in ga right now as a better opportunity of receiving an academic scholarship!)
FYI - Chris Drury from Trunbull CT also was star in the little league world series and became great NHL player, but these stories are few and far between. |
