Thanks, again, Brian for working around our football players. We have 4 players that are on 3 different undefeated teams and that is Superbowl Saturday. Of course, this tournament will be a big step for the Force. We have been doing OK in the South Side AA/OPEN tournaments, but this one will be an entirely different animal. I just hope we can have a decent showing among some really dynamite teams.

Tae281, Just curious as to why you asked the question whether there would be 1 bracket? Does having 2 Brackets change the way you approach a tournament?
Another question for you as you are an experienced manager at this age. Do you plan out your pitching for pool play and and then maybe make changes depending upon where you are on track for seeding in the bracket or brackets?

I asked the question because we haven't played in a tournament in almost a month and would like to get some kids work on the mound. Of course that changes if teams get broken into 2 brackets after pool games but in this case we're all in one bracket which is good. Each team has an equal chance to win it all.
As far as trying to seed a certain position, that is too hard to try and control especially when you have several strong teams that you'll have to face regardless of where you finish. Sandy Plains has some short fences so there will be plenty of fireworks next weekend, hope the weather stays warm one more weekend.

Not that anyone cares, but here are my personal thoughts on this weekends tournament. I really believe this was a very solid, competitive fall ball tournament. I was able to see a few familar teams with new rosters, coaches and new teams. I would have to say that the two biggest surprises of the weekend was that no East Cobb team advanced to the finals and that 643DP surprisingly won it all. I also watched a few kids excel to another level out there on the field yesterday. One kid from Smash Baseball, was absolutely lights out from the pitchers mound on Sunday and 643DP has a monster middle infielder and lefty clean-up hitter out of this world!
Anyone else care to comment on the tourney? |

Nice tournament. Great competition! Personally, I was not surprised 643 Cougars won it all. They are a well coached club who play the game the right way! No gimmicks, just fundamentaly sound baseball. |

Also the catcher from EC Phillies was an animal! I saw him throw a kid out @ 2nd that led off a little to much from his knees, perfect throw. Tough kid too! The lefty pitcher from the same team looked real good too.

Congrats to 643DP , big 9-6 win over Shiloh in the ship.
side note; Gwinnett, have not heard much on the ship, how close of a game was it?
My comments, Good well run tournament overall. From the start, I had thought Shiloh would win. I was wrong.
Winners: 643DP had pretty good pool draw and then drew winner of the same two teams from their pool for their first bracket game, so probably gave them an advantage as they are very well coached and were able to glide into the Semis while saving on pitching. Beat the Smash in a close semi 4-2. Proceeded to take care of business in the ship.
Shiloh had good handle on all games, safely beating the Storm and Hornets in pool and Phillies and Wildcats in bracket.
Wildcats played well, 18-0 in first pool game, then losing a close one in pool play to Longhorns 7 to 6, in bracket play a good win over Roswell 10-3 and a big win in close one over the ECB powerhouse Rays 9-7 in bracket play only to lose to Shiloh 8-4 in Semis. Wildcats are still my sleeper for 2012.
The Smash really impressed giving the Rays all they could handle in pool play losing 2-1 and a 5-3 win over the Phillies, Then two strong wins over ECB Pride 9-1 and the big win over ECB powerhouse Longhorns 10-2 in the bracket play before losing to 643DP in a close one. Watch out for the Smash.
Surprises:
Longhorns won two very close pool games by 1 run and then ran into the Smash in 1st round of bracket.
Rays beat the Phillies 10-8 in a their other close pool game. But could not overcome the Wildcats in 1st round of bracket play, did this one go 7 innings?
Bloodiest pool draw:
Rays, Phillies & Smash
Phillies lost close ones to the Smash and Rays, then beat the Storm 10-1 in bracket prior to running up against Shiloh. They seem to get the tough tournament draws. Like to here how Coach (Loganmil) approached pool play in this tournament?
Lastly, Does anyone know if this was a blind draw on the Pools?

1st I'm trying to put behind me.....LOL...... Hats off to 643 they just out played us!
I wish our starting pitcher had a little more juice, but was exhausted from football. We were up 4-1 after 2 innings then our 2nd pitcher came in & 643 put 3 more on board to tie 4-4. Then we scored two more. Then our 3rd pitcher that finished the 3rd started the 4th and 643 put 2 more on the board 6-6. In the 5th we brought our 4th pitcher in and 643 got a couple of solid hits then a home run making it 9-6. 6th inning we couldn't answer back-game over. The boys had lots of fun.
Side note-hopefully the heckling/screaming team can control them selves in the future. VERY unsportsman like!

great tourney. There were a lot of top teams in this tourney. Shiloh, Phillies, and SP Wildcats had some beast pitchers.
643dp pulled off a trick play in the ship. They had runners on first and third. Runner on first ran 10yards and fell. He stayed down and watched what shiloh did. Shiloh threw down to first, and the kid quickly got up and went to second. Runner on third obviously scored. Overall good ship game.
Kid from SP wildcats was 6'3 240. Amazing, he should be playing up at least one or two years.
All these teams that say they play top competition should have been in this one. There were some very good teams and very good pitching.
Congrats to Shiloh and 643 |

Kreskin the Phillies approached our pool play games like any other tournament we play in. We try to win. With a tough draw it makes it harder to get a higher seed. We are fortunate enough to have alot of good pitchers on our team. Which makes it easier to pitch each pitcher 2 to 3 innings in pool and have some left for bracket play. From what i seen this weekend, you have to have velocity along with good offspeed stuff no matter what team you face. I am seeing these Major teams can hit a fast ball no matter how hard you throw it. We enjoyed our weekend and got to see some very impressive baseball played. Congrats to Shiloh and 643 for making it to the ship.

JMO - If you are going to post facts, please have correct ones. My son is 6'4" and 190 lbs. He is 12 years old and playing with his age group like every other player in the 12U age group. |

Don't get all worked up. It was a compliment. I should have said he is talented enough to play up at 13 or 14. |

Hi All - my son has played against tlecroy's son going back to 9yo, and still tell this story today but we pulled up to scrimmage their team and my son saw the 'big kid from ga' sitting behind the wheel of his dad's pickup and said..... "OMG!!! He drove here today?? ". Had to remind my son that tlecroy's son was still only 9 years old too
Congrats to 643 too! Good win for Greg! |
