The Silver Creek bat company had a tent set up at a recent ECB tourney. I talked to the rep and he was really pushing the Hickory bats saying that they were more durable and had more pop than maple bats. His hickory bats were selling for $65, which is comparable to a decent maple bat.
This fall my son has gone through 1 ash and 2 maple bats...all of them split along the grain in the barrel, then broke at the handle a few swings later. He finished the fall season with the Demarini D110 composite. Very durable, but noticably less pop than the maple bats.
Has anyone used the Silver Creek hickory bats? If so, a review would be appreciated.... |

The problem with most of the wood bats is in the grain. If you want to see what makes a quality professional grade wood bat, go to www.rockbats.com They have a 20% discount code too... its raybaseball |

There was a kid on one of my son's 16 year old team that broke 6 bats in one night. 5 of them shattered all being maple and ash. He then used a Marucci and he managed to crack that one only about 1". My son has been using a Marucci Ash bat all fall (batting cage and on average 5 games a week) and has not broken one yet and he has hit plenty offf the end of the bat.
If you want something that is indestructible go with Baum Bat ... http://youtu.be/P_UaIzLGr6k |

great information on wood bats here at www.bearvalleybats.com
For wood bats its a must to put the bat in your hand and look at the grain...regardless of the wood choice. |

So where is the best place around north Georgia to actually go pick out a bat? Any place with a wide selection? |

Thanks,
We have gone there before for other gear: Catcher's equipment, batting helmet.... I never thought about them for a wood bat. I did just oreder one from Bear Valley Bats. They custom make each bat, and have the best customer service I have seen. For example, my son has very large hands, so they are making the handle 1/16 inch thinker then a standard bat. I have not recieved it yet, but I will post an update after he has a chance to swing it. |
