Crossfire baseball is the first fall battle winner of North Florida's elite. After taking on consensus North Fla number one Blue Claws to a Tejas Tie Breaker and putting the hammer down with well timed clutch hits and an emotional dugout and fans. They dispatched a pesky and scrappy upstart TPX team with a ton of upside who upset fall tested favorite Regulators.

Umpires in the semi game should have tossed the second seed head coach but he was subsequently dispatched with the loss. USSSA needs to review their rules and insure that Umpires are empowered to make the call to eject a coach when they cross the line.

The competition for number one over the fall and when it matters in the spring has preheated for Northeast Florida teams. Currently the hierarchy is:

1. Crossfire - 4.5 Tool Team
2. Blue Claws - Built on D
3. Team TPX - BatsRus
3. Regulators - Roster ?s in Spring

Subject to change for obvious reasons

Look for one or more of these teams to make some noise on the national scene over the Spring. There is a Major team disguised as a AAA team in this grouping.

Crossfire Baseball is on the rise I agree. The mindset and work ethic of the coaching staff transfers well to the field of play. Obviously it takes talented athletes as well to turn an idea into a run or an out. As a parent of a Clrossfire athlete I am very excited to be a part of this ball club and cannot wait til we can practice 2-3x a week and have our entire ballclub healthy.

TPX showed a lot of spirit and I'm sure Tony will coach his team up to a respectable standard. I have coached a few of his athletes and they are scrappy and resourceful. As far as The Regulators and the Blue Claws are concerned they will do what they do. The Claws lost one of the best hitters in Jville for his age but gained one of the most clutch hitters. It'll be interesting to see how that works out for Palmer. Honestly as TJ goes the Regulators go. Not saying they don't have a worthy team around him but we all know when that BEAST is on his game. It's like watching a man amongst children. I think as our kids (Crossfire) get older the mental toughness of the game starts to show up in the win and loss column. For a very long time teams shook at the mention of a Blue Claw, but as I said mental focus and a classy, determined and capable coaching staff and driven athletes have leveled the playing field.

Our kids have bought into it our parents believe it and our coaches preach it. HERE WE COME BOYS!!!

The conract is a wonderful way of making the kids accountable for their on and off the field actions. Maybe reactions is a better way of putting it. If you do this, there's a consequence. The consequence is you cannot play ball if you cannot be accountable for your actions. Our coaching staff is trying to make the boys better ball players but also better people. I love it! It's like a program instead of just practice and playing.

There is definitely a concept at work here. You always hear people talking about buying into a coaches system. Well this is bigboy baseball and our kids have to buy into the concept of discipline and consequences. It's a fragile pairing but it works for us.

As far as the chants it keeps our boys in the game mentally and lets the other team know to bring their "A" game 'cause we are definitely not going away quiet into the night.

The contract is what sets Crossfire apart from other teams in our area. When I say Crossfire I am pointing to the parents, coaches, and the players. The contract allows the kids to see, touch and read the rules and know that there is consequences for their actions. They also see that that coaches and us as parents are held accountable.

What's more is as a family we treated this signing as a mini signing day and did it with some pageantry as if it was a HS signing day. Our player knows that he is part of a team and that selfishness is a no no. Most importantly, the Crossfire coaches know that Anger is the enemy of Instruction!

While covering this tournament for various age groups I spoke to one of your teams' moms. She stated that the team, coaches and parents all sign a contractual doc? How has that worked? From my view very well over the two games I witnessed. I also noticed a faith based chant after the game? Very refreshing perspective in my 7 years of covering travel baseball and youth sports.

Flabb, the chant I think you were referring to is in the huddle where the team and coaches say: GOD is first, Team is second, I am third. They then break it on down more traditionally.

The enforcement of the contract is even handed no matter the individual player who infracts. This fairness reminds me an old college basketball coach that took the loss in a district championship and did not play the players who had rules violations. You just do not see this that much at this age and beyond. The comments abound about how well the kids act. Whether at a tournament, a hotel or a party their manners are usually on point (remember they are 11 & 12 years old).

It is nice to see a collective group of boys and coaches that tip their cap to the competition when a great play is made and in a loss or victory.

Baseball mayhem is everywhere. Are you in good hands? Crossfire Baseball!

FLABB, I never realized there was coverage for travel baseball and youth sports (other than TBS and a couple of other sites). Who are you covering for?

I am a freelance writer/researcher based in Florida. I focus on primarily HS sports, rankings and recruiting and travel baseball for various media outlets (e.g., recruiting.scout.com, prepstar.com, Youth1, Travelball99.com and various web based periodicals/newspapers in the Southeast).
