OK guys, I am new to the forum and need some suggestions. I need suggestions for an upcoming bat purchase. My son is 12 and in 7th grade this year. He will be playing middle school ball starting February 2012. He has played travel ball with a competitive team since he was 8 years old. The bat of choice we have used for the last couple years has been the Worth Lithium Prodigy (-10). He has always loved the bat and had great success with it. He used it last school year but this year playing on varsity the coach requires a minimum -5, which the Prodigy doesn't come in. I am looking for some help so my purchase can be what he could fully utilize. I realize you have to pay a pretty price for some of these bats which I am prepared to do (within reason). Any help will be greatly appreciated!!! Looking forward to some future chats.

If your son likes the Prodigy, Gwinett is spot on. Rival is more durable than the Prodigy, and Easton is great to work with to exchange. The Rival is pretty reasonably priced too.

From what I recall the warranty is 400 days. If anyone has had any luck returning a bat to Easton more than once - let me know.

Thanks for those responses. The Rival was one of the bats I was considering. Never heard of the times 2 return on any bat. Could you expand on that? If that is the case we could make a single purchase last quiet awhile! Thanks again.

The warranty by Easton that was attached to the bat with plastic wrap says and I quote "maximum two replacements per original purchase". Never have returned anything to them yet so we will see if it really works.

Is it a BBCOR? Was that what he used for the 325 bomb?

The website says there are no demo houses in Georgia. Is that correct? I thought ninth Innning baseball in Dorraville was last year.

The M2M is a BBCOR. He's hitting it roughly 300. That night he stepped up with some kid's -3 (same length/weight) Easton Surge and went dead center 325'. Seen the same swing with the ball come off the same way with the M2M, but this time is just disappeared over the fence. I didn't know he'd switched bats, but now we know the distance difference between a legal and a non-legal bat for him right now is about 25 feet give or take.

I had been told the BBCORs would Have 10 to 15 percent less travel. Yours looks like it went about 9percent further with the non BBCOR.

Well folks - I can answer the question posed earlier about sending a bat back to Easton more than once..... Gwinnett is right!!!

Got lucky and this thread surfaced almost 1 year after we bought a Rival that Easton had previously replaced. Sent the Rival back to easton a 2nd time.

Easton contacted me today and gave me the option of getting a replacement bat with a stamp (larger bat too) or a generous credit that we can use towards the purchase of a 2012 Easton Bat.

Fantastic customer service.

BTW: The Easton Rival replacement for 2012 will be the Power Brigade. Same bat, New name - more durable (according to an Easton Engineer on another posting board)

I understand that the new bats may travel less than last years model.

I have a question. May be silly, but ...

If the same kid swings a -10 bat and a -8 bat, which one travels farther? The heaver bat may have a slower swing speed, but since it is heavier, will the ball go further?

Thanks for that update prestont. I think that pretty much seals the deal on what bat to get. With 2x returns a single purchase could actually last him an entire year!!!

Hi Everyone, please check out my post for bat specials. Please let me know if you have any questions about the bats for next year.

Using a BBCOR bat vs any weight of a senior league (big barrel) bat will for sure give a disadvantage to most hitters.

And to sportsdad's question, the -8 bat is more mass than the -10 so if they are swung with the same speed then of course the great mass will generate more force. The question is if the -8 bat slows the hitters swing speed down enough to make a difference since force is mass x velocity squared. The speed is more important, up until certain points where additional speed creates instability and less force. The other factor is the sag or trampoline of a bat. The more sag/trampoline the more the ball stays round and the more force is absorbed by the ball. So -10 bats typically have much more trampoline in their thinner walls.

**Hope that helps**

And please call me or email me if you have any questions:
