Now that Cooperstown is behind us, and what a GREAT experience that was, we're trying to plan ahead for the upcoming season's World Series / End of Season options. What are your thoughts on locations that should be considered?
The following one's come to mind: Ripken Experience, Panama City, Gulf Breeze, Disney
Any other ones that you've experienced that would be worth looking into as a great experience for the kids/parents? What's everyone thinking?
Thanks, Michael |

That depends on the caliber of team you have. Ripken, Panama City and Gulf Shores are good for most teams. Disney- AAU or Elite 32 will be more intense and dedictated to baseball with not alot of time to goof off unless you get knocked out early. Disney is more expensive. Try the CABA in Indiana, it is also very good and lots of good teams. Triple Crown in Myrtle Beach was also decent. |

Triple Crown Summer Nationals in Myrtle Beach is a good tourney. Usually 60+ teams of all caliber. Personally, I prefer Myrtle Beach over Panama City. It does play 60/90 for 13u, so you need to prepare for it. In years past, the championship game is played on the Myrtle Beach Pelican's home field (BB&T Coastal Field) which is a great venue. VERY well run tourney. What you'd expect from a Triple Crown event.

If you want to find out where your team really stacks up, I would say Elite 32 or CABA in Indy.

Disney Elite 32 is not an option unless you win a Super NIT.....Does not have to be in GA.

I have heard Omaha is a great tournament. Great competition and a great experience... Kids get to hang at THE COLLEGE WS....While playing ball.
Elites will be the toughest competition... The best 32 in the Country. If people dont boycott USSSA... |

We did the Slumpbuster in Omaha this year during the final week of the CWS(session III). Here's my take on it: Good 1) there were 28 teams in our age group from many different states and we had never seen any of them 2) competition was solid above the bottom 7-8 teams 3) the CWS was very cool and the new stadium is awesome Bad 1) the fields were very similar to the ones we use for the Super NIT in Atlanta- in other words, not good 2) very expensive to travel there whether you fly or drive and the hotels are pretty old 3) weather is odd. We arrived to temps in the 50s/60s and ended with huge storms 4) not a lot of entertainment when you're not playing or going to the CWS
Overall, I wouldn't recommend it. It's just really far to travel for a 3 day tourney(they bill it as a 4 day event but one of the days is a carnival & skills challenge) and just not enough bang for the buck.

Thanks Chris.....
He would know better than me. He has been. I was just going off what I was told from teams out west.. There is a big TC tournament in Steamboat Springs as well. Dont know if that will be different.
I just know people are getting tired of USSSA tournaments....
The more we all prepare the better.

Why travel across country to play on sub par fields when you have great fields in Georgia. Save some money for a new bat or glove or both. |
