I wasn't there but I heard there was some wheeling and dealing going on in the stands, promises being made and a few players trying to be switched at the last minute by coaches. things for the top teams seem to be quiet, they've gotten their rosters set and are looking forward to spring. Secondary teams are finishing up their picks since the top dogs are done pickin.
Question is who are the winners in the off season????? |

who are the "top teams" and who are the "secondary teams"? Some of the secondary teams beats the top teams last year. |

There were at least 2 teams and I'm pretty sure there was a third that I know of from EC last season that lost less than 20 games and probably played between 80-90, and both of those teams had to search high and low and travel to play only the best competition.....Those IMO are the top teams.....Maybe I am alone in defining a "top team" but I would guess that is who BravesFan was talking about. |

oldschooldad, the top teams are the one's who can pick the players they want. How many teams can do that? problem is kids who should be on secondary teams keep trying to make the top teams and that is why these teams cannot finalize their rosters and keep looking. Now that the top teams are full, these kids will start filling out the other teams and the cycle of travel ball will continue as it should. |

We attended on Saturday only and there was alot of standing around compared to the try-outs/clinics that we saw on the 13U & 9U fields. 4+ hours to race in the 40yd dash, time from home to 1B, 2 throws from RF (1 to 3B, 1 to Home), and 5 balls hit @ SS. Our last name is late in the alphabet so kids warm up arms and then sit for some time before their number is called.
We all spend so much time @ the ballfields that we build relationships with folks from all over! Now our son had a blast 'hangin with the boys' from lots of diff teams that he's played against for the last few years. All seem to be going different directions but they definitely had fun hanging out together. We got a chance to hang with some good friends (old + new) while the kids were on the field.
How did things work out for you unosmom? |

Prestont,
Was this a clinic or a tryout? From your post sounds more like a tryout. I would think a clinic would be where you learn something or are treated for something? The registration form to fill out references both as they state "EAST COBB BASEBALL TRY-OUT CLINICS for 2012 teams" and "instructors" will be running the clinic, however, from your post, it seems as if your son was run through a pretty mundane tryout and you've made a great point as to the kids arms not being warm after standing around for hours waiting for the cattle call. Probably a recipe for some injuries as the kids are trying to show their stuff, but then maybe that is where there is a need for a visit to the clinic.
Does anybody have any idea if Sunday was run much differently? Used to be a lot more reps and a scrimmage? These days, I think most of these teams have already tried out the majority of the kids and the few unknowns that show up end up getting most of the attention.

Braves fan, who are referring to when you say "top dogs". You seem to be in the know about this 12U program. Who are the top teams? Fill me in on some of this.......we came from another academy so Im lost. |

I must say that we were very disappointed with the hole event! This was our first time at ec,and we were expecting more.We were their 5+ hours, and my kid was involved in 9 plays!I told him this would be a great chance to learn and help his game, but I was so wrong. At least it only cost a little money and a little time to see what ec is about! |

We are really talking about the "top dog" in the Braves. There are 2-3 next in line and then the rest are AAA or AA teams. |

Any truth to the reports that ECB teams need to have at least 10 players on their roster by today? Just wondering why? The tryouts were less than a week ago and some kids are not even back from summer vacation. Some teams are at 8 -9 players with offers out waiting for answers, plus with all the new teams and movement, coach need a scorecard to keep track of who is playing on what team. (magic 8 ball) Once the dust starts to settle final roster moves can be made. |

Are you saying that only one team will want each player -- highly unlikely. So, it sounds like the coaches are allowed to wheel and deal behind the scenes so that only one can pick you. If that's okay for the coaches, parents should be given the same option. What if the one that picks you is not the best fit for your son or family? Sounds totally unfair.

Bravesfan, So who would you think are the 2-3? Astros, Longhorns, Rays, Stars? Astros roster? tough to build from scratch, one or two from last years 12u team, 1 from last years 10u Longhorns, one good pitcher from the 11u Raptors, if they are not getting any from the Braves, they must have a few coming from Rays and Longhorns, leads you to believe that there are a lot of "if then" scenarios, discussions and commitments going on at present. The Rays and Longhorns stand the most to lose as Major teams who have the better talent to draw from. The only other possibility would be to see a merger. Highly unlikely but could be entertaining.
Its too early to tell but Braves are top dog as they only lost 1-2 players and they were not in their top 7-8 so they should move on w/o slowing down. After them, it's gets dicey as some say rays and some might say horns depending which day it was. I am going to stick with Braves, Rays & longhorns as the top 3 teams and in that order.
I think the astros will be good but I have to question why they only have a couple of kids from the top teams. Maybe, coach sees several kids with tons of potential that he can develop and mold into his own. Like most, I think we are interested in seeing who they have and what it all looks likes. Time will tell, i am sure many are ready to strap it on and give it a go. I will be around but its FB season and its time to strap it on and knock the snot out of someone. [/quote] |

What is the final list of 12u teams at ECB for next season? Heard there was up to 13 possible at one point. What's the final number?

Thats a great question. During the tryout weekend, from what I could gather and hear about there seemed to be around 10. I do know several decided that weekend to merge with other teams. So it will be interesting! |

I wonder how many will be AAA? Anyone know which ones will probably be AAA? I know there's not enough talent to have 13 major teams....

-- How would one even try to rate or rank new teams? Do you know the rosters for each teams? Some have made very significant roster changes, some have made minor changes, most have not even practiced, and NONE have played a game. Kids have grown and started to mature.
Never liked labels or preseason ranking. Plus Major , AAA, AA is only USSSA rankings. Some teams do not play many or any USSSA events. Some even less because of the new USSSA only bat requirements.
Just sit back , watch the Bravos hopefully make a run, and wait for Spring. |

you made some very good points but I call them like I see em and it's just one washed up persons point of view. It surprises me how many teams made so many changes, hard to judge a team that replaces more then 6-7 players as chemistry is as important as who you add.
When I list these teams its more of what i think there talent level indicates, some are actually AA types but thats not important. Also, some teams saying they are majors abut re really AAA types but there isn't anything wrong with a stretch goal, gives them something to shoot for. Is it to hard to judge teams this early? Yes but I think in most cases I am right and have been.
