How many tournaments/games are usually played for a new 8U team? Are there tournaments available to play in every weekend thru the spring season? Looked at last years 8U teams and the tournys they played and there didnt seem to be alot of teams that play in tournaments on a regular basis until late in the season. I would guess some of these teams were all-star teams. Just looking for info about what to expect for a new team as far as playing in tournys as 8yr olds. Any help is greatly appreciated!! |

Todds, I only know 8U KP but there were tournaments most weekends March through June. The tournys are split between USSSA, Triple Crown, Nations Baseball and Private (Programs or Teams that give tournys) Tournaments. Last year, early in the season more teams played CP I think and gravitated towards KP later in the season. Another thing that some 8U teams did was play in 9AA tournaments. Another option is to try Alabama a few weekends if your tired of seeing the same teams here. So you have options and can get in more than 60-70 games in a season if you wish. |

There were tournaments everywhere each weekend. What we found is that Half way through the season 1/2 the teams went to kid pitch. Tenn and Al. Also have tournaments. You end up seeing the same teams as teams move to kid pitch. Openbaseball.net had the best deal for 8u coach pitch @ $50 dollars for 4 games... |

Angels1 is correct - we did that and we were somewhat successful at it. We played some 9U teams last year as well - so it's nice to have options. We played close to 70 games in the 2011 season. The season starts in August and goes to July - the more they play the better they get - my opinion... |

Thanks. We r starting out as a CP team. Are there any CP tournys out there. Seems a little early to be starting KP at 8U in my opinion. Is this typical at this age grp to be starting in KP? Are there more KP tourny then CP? Will transition to KP after spring break next year but if starting at KP this early is the norm we may have to rethink things a little. |

TODDS, each year it's a litle different but last years 8U class was about 50% 50% I think. I don't think its early. I think the teams that convert to KP late in the year are putting a lot of pressure on getting ready for the next year where they will be 9U. For the teams that wait, that gives their pictures 3 months to get adjusted to pitching (April thru early July) then they will be in 9U when they come back for Fall. Now they have to worry about balks, stealing, covering home, multiple, pickoffs, etc. The hitters also have a great adjustment to make in a short period of time. CP to 40' KP to 46' KP in a matter of 5 months.
FYI: Out of the 12 top teams in the USSSA KP World Series, 4 teams played some CP durng the year. The highest ranking team from the WS that played CP was the Bulldogs and they finished 4th (but this team also played some KP at 7U). Also for the transition to 9U, most of the top teams also played KP the whole year when they were at 8U. The Buzz may be one of the only exception for the top 9U teams. |

Todds, USTSA has a tournament coming up on Oct. 15, 16 in Jackson, Ga. (Butts Co.) Its a 4 GG and the time limits are 1:45 or 6 innings. We want the kids to play baseball. Tournament cost is $300 and $5 gate, kids 12u are free. You will recieve 3 coaches passes. Format will be 3 pool play games into single elim. USTSA.net is going through some updating so info might be hard to find.
