The DSB Diablos will hold tryouts for their 14U teams (planning for two teams) on August 6th at Dunwoody Park from 10:00-12:00. If you are a pitcher or catcher, plan to also attend a tryout on August 7th at 3:00. The teams will compete at the Major or AAA levels depending on what the pitching dictates.
If you have a conflict with the times, players may attend the 15u tryout which will be held the same days but from 1:00 to 3:00 on the 6th and 12:00 to 2:00 on the 7th. Let the coaches know what team you are trying out for.
The DSB Diablos will once again be coached by Danny Rueckel. Coach Rueckel was a 12th round draft pick of the Montreal Expos and spent 6.5 years in the Expos/Nationals organization where he was selected for the 2004 AA All-Star team. Coach Rueckel played his college baseball at Furman University where he was a 4-year starter at SS and pitcher. He graduated from Dunwoody HS in 1998 where he was a standout infielder and pitcher for the Wildcats and was DeKalb County Player-of-the-Year.
The DSB Diablos will play a minimum of 60 games with a minimum of 40 practices. The team will play some games in the fall, but will work around fall sport commitments. The DSB Diablos will once again travel to world series play next summer wrapping up in mid-July.
More details will be provided at the tryouts. You can also email me at peyost@bellsouth.net or Coach Rueckel at d.rueckel@comcast.net |

I've received some more questions that I'll share here;
Q: How many 14U teams will you have in 2012? A: In 2011 we had 2 teams and are currently expecting to have two again in 2012. However, the final determination will be made by how many players we have available and whether we have enough pitching for two teams. If the numbers don't permit two teams, we'll have just one.
Q: At what level do you expect the team(s) to play? A: This depends mostly on the depth of the pitching staff. In 2011, the Diablos played some Major level teams, but mostly AAA. They were one of the top AAA teams in GA. The second team played some AAA but mostly AA. In either case, our goal is to play at the level most appropriate for the team so the players see competition that'll push them without overwhelming them.
Q: Will I be able to play football in the fall and maintain a spot on the Diablos roster? A: Absolutely! We believe that, in the fall, football should come first. We will work the practice and game schedule around the football players on the team. In past years, the team held a practice or two during the week for anyone who could attend and then played some doubleheaders on Sundays. After the football season is over, there are typically a few weekends available for either a tournament or more doubleheaders. |

There's one more opportunity to try out for the 2012 DSB Diablos 14U teams Monday, the 8th, at Dunwoody Park. Start time is 6:00. You can attend if you missed the tryouts over the weekend or would like the coaches to have one more look before picking the teams. Teams will be selected this week and posted on the team's web site by Friday evening.
The 14U DSB Maroon team will be coached by local veteran travel baseball coach, Rusty Jones. Rusty brings years of experience and passion for youth baseball to the organization. |
