The 9u USSSA state tourney at ECB should begin on Wednesday...has anybody seen a schedule?

I sure wish more of the teams were playing at one location. Some teams passing up ECB venue this week to play in Dalton.

Some teams played in a USSSA state championship event last weekend.

I guess it's good for USSSA having more teams playing to be "STATE CHAMPIONS".

If the LACK of posting of the scores for the 10u Open State at ECB last week is any indication of keeping updates to the website for this 9u event, it probably won't happen.

GA Yarddogs-Blk vs. GA Team Raiders Friday at 9:00pm should be a good one for two teams headed to the Elite 32 WS.

I have been a watcher on this site for a few years, and have never posted, but I needed to comment on this thread.

Wow was this tournament a disappointment. Making our first trek to the famous East Cobb Complex, we were excited. We enjoyed the Nations Baseball and Triple Crown State events and felt the best was yet to come. We could not have been more wrong. I will attempt to summarize our experience at the event.

1. Poor officiating: I'm not talking ball and strikes, which were sketchy too, I mean we had an umpire call a balk because a pitcher faked a throw to 3rd with a runner occupying. After a 10-minute break and a consult from an off-duty umpire, the call was finally reversed. I won't go blow-by-blow, that was just the most obvious.

2. The field and dugouts were trashed from the game the night before. When the tournament director was asked if we could get our infield pulled like the other fields prior to the first game on Sat am, he replied, "it's just a 9u game." When we reminded him that the 9u teams paid $525 to play this event, he responded, "just don't come back next time." I don't know if he was having a bad morning or what, but the parent asking him was not demanding or challenging. We were shocked.

3. One of the siblings of one of the players was run over by a teenager on an EC golf cart speeding around between the fields.

4. Tournament format insured 50% of the teams had nothing to play for after pool play. And the championship bracket only played 3 pool play plus 2 games, which I feel is unbecoming of a state championship.

5. There was no tournament bracket posted at the field or online to be found. The game listing online was updated after any usefulness.

I could go on, but I won't. Needless to say, we won't make this event our end-of-the-year event next year. Out of the 12 events we played this year, it was easily the worst experience we had.

We have played USSSA State and WS for the last 3 years, and have not been treated like this at their other events. I guess EC was the new part of the equation. I have been told this is typical. Is this true?

They have not updated the USSSA website for this tournament. Who won it? Who went to bracket play? It would be nice if they would at least post it.

I hate to hear that, sounds like a terrible experience. I still can't find any info posted anywhere, who won?

I usually don’t stoop to this level but since I was called out, Ill respond to these ridiculous comments....
1. The last time I checked, umpires make mistakes, however, in this case, they ended up making the correct call which is all we can ask for. I’m not an “off duty” umpire, My 10 years of umpiring are in the past, I’m a retired Blue!
2. Unless you’re the gentleman that approached me, you do not know what was said to get the conversation started, I believe it started something like, "I bet an East Cobb team is about to play on this field, right?" (the lower field he was referring to was being dragged at the time, insinuating EC only drags fields for our teams)....my response, "Nope that’s 643 who actually is a big competitor of ours and that’s a team from Albany Ga, sorry to disappoint you on your accusation". After the amount of rain EC received, most parks would of cancelled the entire tournament, however, our fields have incredible drainage as witnessed this weekend and our field crews probably know what fields hold more than others and which ones can handle a drag and which ones are better off letting dry more before a drag to lesson clumping, but I’ll leave that up to them since they work those fields every day, I don’t know, you may be an expert in baseball field maintenance, but I know for a fact, EC is. Not a bad morning at all, just going to conduct a conversation the same way I’m being spoken to.
3. Please get your facts straight before accusing a teenager of something, the child was not run over and actually, the same child was back riding the same scooter she was told not to ride anymore because it is posted that no bikes, skateboards or scooters are allowed at EC. Enough said!
4. I’m sure you know how to get in touch with the State Director on format, they supply it, we run it and in this case with all the rain outs, One of the National Directors instructed us on how to complete the tournament. Talk to Mother Nature about any other issues you have.
5. In case anybody doesn’t know, USSSA has a website that has scores posted, as far as at the park, after getting my "brackets” and paperwork, completely soaked two days in a row, you’re correct, I didn’t run home and print off more and get them posted for you. Schedules and scores were posted on Sunday when it counted(and no rain).

State Tournament - Open Georgia Team Raiders 12 GA Yard Dogs Black 7

The tournament bracket was not filled in but found this score by drilling down on the Raiders team on the USSSA website.

Yard Dogs were down 8-0 early in the championship. It looked like their pitching was off a bit but battled back to make this an exciting game. Crowds, coaches and players were really into this game; fun to watch! Gotta give it up to the Raider Nation! #8 really pitched a great game.

I agree this tourney could have been ran much more smoothly.. My biggest complaint was they did not have Trophies for all of the kids after the championship game...After the kids played all weekend out in the hot sun... you tell them they are not getting a trophy tonight... that is not good at all... USSSA get it together!!!!
