I hope USSSA and Triple Crown does something about these teams using these bats. You can tell that the there are juiced bats and I am tired of it. The team knows who I am talking about and it's time to put a stop to it!

You would sure hope 11yr old dads-coaches would not stoop to this. I have heard all the same roomers about certain teams. But after seeing it for my own eyes and listening with my own ears there is no doubt in my mind what's goin on. Now is the time for usssa to step up before someone gets hurt. Prob won't happen these sanctioning bodies like cashin checks to much. My ? Is this as a opposing team is there anything that can be done short of refusing to play these teams.

As 1 of of the assistant coaches of a team that was accused yesterday of using illegal bats, we offered any bat they wanted to take to test give us what we paid for it and they could have it. I can assure you if I thought a team was using an illegal bat, I would pay for it to be tested. Every 1 of the bats we have that were in question were purchased from the same online dealer and was in original wrapper from the manufacturer. I know for a fact that our head coach and all the parents would not tolerate anyone using an illegal bat. I hope the young man that was injured is doing better, and our prayers go out to him and his family for a quick recovery.
Thanks,
John Patrick

This was certainly the hot topic of the tournament. Smaller kids that could only hit it 200 feet 3 months ago, were now hitting it 265 (half way up a 250 fence). I don't believe the bats were shaved but I do believe they should be banned. Were they rolled - who knows and is this even illegal? There were kids from other teams using the same bat and when the ball was hit on the screws it had far more speed and carried further than any other bat. One kid (Team FL) hit a ball that should have been in the gap on field 7 and it hit off the top of the wall. Our coaches have seen thousands of balls hit on that field and there is no way that ball should have hit anywhere near where it did. These bats won't be allowed in a few months anyway.

If USSSA really wants to fix the problem they should invite several coaches to discuss the topic before someone gets killed playing baseball. IMO - the drops should be enforced throughout the ages and steadly fall. For example: drop 10 in 8U, 9U and 10U, drop 8 in 11U and 12U and drop 5 in 13U or something like this. Just level the playing field. The compostite bats are only half of the problem so IMO they are only addressing half the problem. There is no way any 11U kid should be able to swing a drop 10 bat - again just my opinion. Drop 10's were great for 8U or 9U or 10U but 11U? I know there are still some little kids using them in 12U but that is going to be one big fall when they have to swing a heavier bat overnight.

Drop 10's are fine for some of the little 11U players but the kids I saw using drop 10's were the bigger, older boys - thus creating a steroid effect. That is equal to letting the biggest and oldest high school kids swing a drop 5 instead of a drop 3. I realize that nobody is breaking the rules by using a drop 10 but it gives them a huge advantage. It's all how you view what 11U ball is for. Is your view about making your kid a star and winning at all cost or preparing them for the future? There are no rights or wrongs here, just differences in how parents are approaching what 11U ball is for.

I just wonder how many teams saw all of this and are on-line right now to get the competitive advantage. It will be interesting to see how many of these bats start to show up at the average local tournament.

The discussion of illegal bats in several topics has gotten out of hand. Lots of accusations and they all can't be true. No responses are being posted. As soon as we can we are going to clean up the topics and let the discussion go on in generalities but not any specific instances.

In our tourney this weekend, I was watching the game before us and waiting for it to end to take the field. I happened to be standing behind a dad talking to another dad about the juiced bat he just had done for his son. Of course, we ended up playing them in Bracket play and I informed their coach of the discussion I had overheard. He went to the father, talked for a minute and then went to his dugout, grabbed the bat, and handed it over the fence to the dad. I know most of us would not allow this on our teams and as always, it is just a very few that will stretch every rule they can to it's furthest. Congratulations to that coach and to the rest who keep baseball pure and fun for our children.
