Bandits traveled to Rock Hill, South Carolina to win the North Carolina Super NIT. Papa can't give you any help in figuring that one out but what's the difference.

In what I think was one the most dominating pitching performance that I have ever witnessed the Bandits dusted the former #1 team according a national site and with some timely hitting took home the banner that will now hang in the rafters of the Sports Center of Chickamauga, Ga.

#12 was pumped and walked the first Dirt Bag hitter and then got the 2nd hitter to fly out to right field. #12 then decided that it was much too hard letting them hit it so he proceeded to strike out the next 17 batters in a row and yes I said 17 in a row. #1 led off with a double to left to start the game off right and later in the same inning #20 ripped a 3 run shot over the 300 foot sign in right field to provide all the cushion that the Bandits would need.

This one was sweet as the Bandits made this trip for one reason and one reason only and that was to avenge the Dirt Bags win in the fall Super NIT and because we had to wait so long to make this point only makes this one more special.

A special thanks to the Richmond Braves that will no longer be that Virginia team to Papa. This team has just gotten started and I predict that they will be heard from before this season is finished.

BaseballPapa - It was great to finally meet you this weekend. Continue to enjoy the ride - they are only 12 once

Congrats Bandits!! I've been doing this a while and you are one of the first that I've seen that's truly "as advertised". As if the goose eggs you guys are throwing up in the ship's of the biggest Super NIT's is not enough?

Alot of things can happen with 12 year olds as we move through the next few years, but I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to see your team in action - today. I dont see how previous teams (in previous years) could have been any better - what area of the game would they improve? You are not only loaded with talent. Your kids play the game the right way and your folks carry themselves with class - and this is not easy to do when you are destroying the teams you face. My team will be better for having seen you in action...and thats a good thing.

Good luck the rest of the way and we hope to see you at Disney this summer!

Way to go Bandits! #1 again. Savor the sweet taste of victory. We are so proud of you all, and all the family's who have built the Bandit legacy. Atta boy Coach Troy! 17 K's in a row? Was that a typo? Way to go #20, way to go to my special Gwinnett friends, way to go Papa, ah heck...great job all the way around.

Didn't a Georgia team win the 13U's as well? Was it the EC Astros?

Yes the EC Astros won the 13U division.

But back to the Bandits....
That is an awesome accomplishment. In my eyes, until someone proves they can beat the Bandits multiple times, and stop them from winning the Super NIT's, they strongly deserve the #1 National slot. There are just so many factors that cannot throw you off course in the Super NIT's. Weather being one of them. To do it 3 times is just simply "Impressive". Great job, guys.

Someone could make a movie/documentary about this team and its accomplishments starting from before 9U and up. I think some of these guys starting winning at 6U? I think it is amazing because this is an independent team and not an East Cobb team. I'm sure several of these guys will be starting high school baseball after next year. It will be sad when it ends, but your family's and kids will have something to cherish from now on. Maybe we will see some of these guys in the big leagues.
The stories are simply amazing...one of these kids has already been on a Cooperstown winning team twice at 10U playing when he was 8?
I guess the only thing left is to win the Elite 32???

Best of Luck to you all !!!

I'm glad my friends from Gwinnett joined your team. I had a feeling that might happen after 9U. They made a name for themselves with the 10U Grip.

Nah Whitlow, we won the Elite 32 back to back so they have to at least do that.

The way these kids are playing, there is no reason they could not pull that off.

btw, Papa, which week are you guys in Cooperstown this year, or do you know yet? I love following local teams when they are up there.

Whitlow,
How soon we forget. Let me take you back in time...those Gwinnett Bandits were on the radar screen long before the 10u Grip. Don't you remember how they won the Dixie Youth Pee Wee State Championships at 8U with Mill Creek, (there are no Nationals in Pee Wee, or they'd have won that too!), and how they did it in amazing fashion. I saw most every game, and on average, only 2 opposing teams runners per game reached base. Dacula was the only team to test them. I was following the Dizzy Dean Districts, and States that year too.

Then, go to USSSA's 9u power rankings from 3 years ago...who was the 4th highest ranked team in Georgia just behind the Bandits and Sandtown at 16-4? Mill Creek Hawks! Take a close look at that roster.
Collins Hill was their nemesis back then.

I was there when Coach Troy pitched, and when the Bandits bunted it just beyond that White semi-circle every time they tried, and when Mill Creek had this 7U Rec team called the Diamondbacks.

You're right about the Bandits story needing to be revealed on a larger stage for more Americans to enjoy. Can you imagine Coach Troy and his sons trophy cases? They should be put on you tube, but they are way too humble for that. Maybe one of us poses as a plumber, and sneaks a camera in...

Sorry to bore you all, but to see it all unfold has been remarkable.

Papa you guys played at our park "Sawnee Mountain" a couple of weekends ago and I know you are proud of your teams accomplishments. BUT I must say outside of how you guys play between the white lines "which is a joy to watch" I must say that your group of coaches, parents and players were some of the most well mannered people I have been around at a park in a long time. I did not talk to a single player that did not respond with yes sir or no sir and you don't find much of that anymore. Great team and good luck with the rest of your season.

Thank you so much for the compliment silvercityjon. We try hard but I will be the first to say that the umpiring must have really been excellent or you might have seen ole Papa in one of his tirades. We are not perfect but we do try hard to respect the game and by the way we really enjoyed playing at your fields and look forward to coming back soon.

Are the Bandits playing to play in the TN SNIT in a few weeks?

Yep I remember very well. I was a volunteer at the Dixie Youth District championship held at Collins Hill Park. I also remember going 3-3 against them in 9U that year (2-1) regular season GGBL games and (1-2) in the GGBL tournament. We thought we had them beat when we won the first championship game 23-2, but lost the second game to lose the championship. Oh well I digress...

Congratz on the 3rd snit victory. Since the Bandits have won so many snit's in the 12u division do you guys plan on playing up in any 13u tournaments either 60/90 or 54/80 before the Elite 32? If so which ones?

I also remeberthose years when we won the 8 year old state championship tournament. That was a great time as the boys played baseball for the love of the game. Looking back, all those boys are still playing, except they are on 4 separate teams as of this post. I will say they are all a dominate fixture on their teams and I am proud of all them for thir accomplishments. They are not all on the bandits, but they are still playing and love being on the field. As coaches, I hope to see them playing for years to come. Not all players will have the opportunity to play on a nationally ranked team, but at this young age....so what. I am glad they are still doing what they love. Can we ask for any more as parents and coaches?

Great point. As long as they are growing, learning, loving the game, and most importantly, being challenged, it doesn't matter where they play.

GMan: I don't believe that you will see the 12U Georgia Bandits playing up this year due to the difference in the distance. There might be an upside but we feel that the best plan will be to keep playing the very best 12U teams we can find that play on the same field we do. We have been very lucky so far to find some super competition although these nights getting home at 3am is getting very old.

I can feel your pain Papa. Those 4 to 6 hour drives after tournaments are not very fun. Thats one reason we are looking to move back to Florida cause you dont have those type drives down there and get to face tough competition week end and week out.

Are you really considering moving to Florida because the drive time for Travel baseball would be less?

Really?

Just wondering want happens then Jr no longer want to play? Move back?

Hello all, We had the fortunate opportunity to play the Bandits last year in the semi-final at Cinci. I was amazed at the discipline of the players at the plate and control the pitchers had with all pitches at different counts. This can only be achieved through hard work and dedication.

As coaches here in the North, we really envy both their parents and players dedication to baseball. I get moans and growns from players AND parents if we want to add a third practice for the week. This is our biggest hurdle.

We actually use the Bandits frequently as motivation for what they can achieve.

Dave,

Hey Papa, do you have a lot of 7th graders on your team? We have 2 and decided to play up to 13U 54/80 this year to give those players a chance on the stepping stone field to the full 60/90. I think as a team, we might skip 13u altogether and go right from 12u to 14u. We have virtually no competition in our area and can't find opponents who even want to play us at 12u.

Yes we are. Living in South Georgia there are not many local tournaments in this area during the year. Not to mention but we also play in Florida so our drive times are on average 4 hours one way. We have figured that we have spent well over 14k in less than a year with travel cost. It usually runs our family $700 to $900 dollars per trip.

So living in Central Florida with all the tournaments offered in that area. There is no travel involved. All baseball complexes are within 15 to 45 mins. The furthest we would have to travel in an hour and 20 mins.

Since you asked if Jr decides he doesnt want to play baseball anymore then we are in an area that offers A LOT more than just baseball. You have Disney, Sea World, Tampa Ray Games, Bucs games, Magic basketball games, Water Parks, great shopping and access to a lot of beaches. However I dont think that would be the case with Jr since he eats sleeps and drinks baseball.

dmettetal- I agree 54/80 field is a waste of time. If your players can handle the jump to the high school field 60/90 I say go for it. My son is 11 years old and plays SS with a 14u team for a year now and I have seen huge improvements with him practicing and playing on the 60/90 field. The biggest adjustment is the longer throws from every position, more ground to cover, longer base paths to run and learning to swing a drop 3 baseball bat.
