With mass cancellations/closures and California being the first state to basically shut down, our season is in jeopardy. We may not play all year.
So if that happens, what do programs do? Do we get refunded? Do we play in same team for free next year? Or deeply discounted? Do programs go under as a result of this? Any thoughts?
I could see a portion being refunded for tourney fees and but there is a significant portion that is sunk costs with field/facility rentals, uniforms and gear, etc. This is becoming more and more a real scenario everyday. It's crazy how broad the spectrum is. Some directors are trying to forge ahead for tournaments in April while whole beaches are being shut down. Having 12 kids in a dugout just don't seem likely to happen given the current CDC mandates.
I joked with a buddy about what team will be first to announce/post Fall 2020 tryouts with this season looking grim. IMO, tourneys will start back first of May and run hard through first of July.
Agree with rec_star. There are a lot of sunk costs. And paid coaches should still be paid during this time if at all possible. Maybe some tourney entry fees get refunded, but if PG doesn’t refund and just gives credits, the cash may not be there to refund. If that’s the case then I could see giving a discount for next season in the amount of the tourney fees. The situation is still too fluid though for any organization to state what they are doing yet.
