Combat just launched a big barrel (-12) Coach Pitch Bat....will this be allowed in 9U USSSA, Nations, All Players, East Cobb tournaments? The manufacturer rep claimed it's rating is within specs which I have my doubts? The retailer also said it was approved for kid pitch.
I'm pasting text from the USSSA website below. I'd assume that, unless the bat in question has passed the 1.15 BPF testing and has an appropriate USSSA 1.15 BPF mark on the bat, the answer would be no.
COACH PITCH BATS - As clarified during the 2010 season, USSSA does not allow bats marked as (or designed or even marketed as) coach pitch, practice, etc. to be used in any USSSA sanctioned play that utilizes regulation baseballs. While in general this remains the rule, at the request of the manufacturers beginning immediately USSSA will allow such bats if they have passed the 1.15 BPF testing and have the appropriate USSSA 1.15 BPF mark on the bat.
Question for you guys coming up from coach pitch. What are the bats that 6 and 7u kids are using in dizzy dean? We are starting the madness all over with my youngest playing 6u and I read Dizzy Dean doesn't allow "coach pitch" bats. I guess the little 25 15 Prodigy was wasted money....correct????
Actually the Prodigy is allowed. The bats that are banned are the -11.5 and -12 2-3/4" big barrel bats that are marked Coach Pitch. I saw some of those models were being used at 8U kid pitch last year and I am glad to see USSSA step up and ban those bats.
