Why not? It is done in youth football tournaments.

I don't know. I realize most teams set up as non-profits, but it seems like 10 year olds playing for cash is wrong. Or at the least, opens up a new can of worms.

Could this jeopardize the amateur status of the players? Anyone know the Georgia High School athletics rules on play for pay? Its not compensating any one player, and the amount is small, so does that impact it?

I do not see where this would be a problem. Even if a team wins the money ,it shouldnt be considered a "profit " if it goes in their account and is used for the team . This is no different than the Nations tournaments that give the winners a credit to play in future tournaments.Just my 2 cents!!I think its a great idea as what most teams want is to play more and pay less!

Guys - here's what's in the rulebook for USSSA. I don't know the details of what the tournament is proposing, but it sounds like it's in direct violation of these rules:

RULE 13.00 – ACTS OF DISBARMENT / SUSPENSION
13.01.E Participating in a tournament in which cash prizes are offered.
Rule 13.01.E Comment: A cash prize is defined as a prize or prizes in cash or in merchandise that is easily converted into cash that is awarded to players or teams based on the final standings of a tournament or other competition. A player or team may receive reimbursement for actual expenses incurred, as long as the amount of the reimbursement is not dependent on the final standings of the event. These acts shall apply to an individual player as well as a team or sponsor.
13.01.F Paying or receiving compensation in consideration of participating in baseball competition. These acts shall apply to an individual player as well as a team or sponsor.
13.01.G Receiving money directly or indirectly by capitalizing on athletic ability, athletic prominence, or athletic fame in baseball except that a player or team may use his name and likeness to advertise, recommend, or promote the sale of baseball sporting goods equipment or other goods or services if it is done pursuant to a registered personal services contract.

Look guys the Atlanta Blue Jays are not in the business ,of jepardizing anybody amatuer status, we are just trying to have a competitive tourny, maybe i used the wrong language in the winning of this tournament . Would it be better if i stated , the winner will recieve there tournament entry fee back. Are would guys feel better if i give a 1st and 2nd place trophies. it amazing how people can come out of the woods with negativity. If i i hurt anybody about this tournament winner please accept my apology. The Atlanta Blue jays is well respect Program though out the country , not just the south. we have put just as many kids in college and pro in the last 6 years than any program in the state. So once again we are not in business of jepordizing anyone amauter status. Most of you guy that blog on this topic wasnt coming to play anyway.

So USSSA can ban a team for competing in tournaments that have NOTHING to do with USSSA??? Sounds pretty ridiculous to me....Another organization does something that USSSA doesn't do so they punish the team....makes perfect sense to me

Guys - I honestly wasn't trying to be negative. We're all big boys and girls here, and we can all read and make our own judgements. I honestly just didn't know if you were aware that there seemed to be a rule that specifically addresses cash prizes USSSA. To be clear, I have nothing to do with USSSA baseball, and you may or may not care that USSSA has a rule about this. However, when I saw your title "no points no trophies, just cash" it caught my eye. The original post says, "winner in the 10U/13U Division will win 700.00$ (NO POINTS NO TROPHIES JUST STRAIGHT CASH)"

I'm sure the intent is to have the best tournament with the best teams possible, and I don't think the Blue Jays or anyone associated with them are out to wreck someone's amateur status. I just wanted to make sure everyone knew that rule was there beforehand, in case there are questions afterward. That's all. Best of luck with the tournament.

Another coach would have to "snitch" on participating teams for USSSA to even find out....I'm pretty much over USSSA anyways....I'm sure some dad who wants to win a 3$ trophy will email USSSA and let them know what teams participated so maybe we should all be nervous about participating...
