I know some teams have not started playing yet but many have.Based on the teams that have played and the various reason rosters moves, any predications on the top team in different division?
Are the EC Braves still the team to beat in the Majors? What about the Yard Dogs and Stealth? Where do the other new EC teams stack up? |

Until someone consistently beats the Braves, yes they are #1 in the state regardless. The Bomberz are a very close 2nd, I think they will close the gap some this year with the Braves. I haven't seen any of the new EC teams play but they probably need some time to gel.
Last I heard, the Yard Dogs broke up after their season ended. |

The other thing is, many fall rosters are not final yet. I know several teams are still trying to fill out the remaining 1-2 spots and they might be able to recruit a strong player from a good team so this will have an effect on some teams now. Plus, the end of fall is around the corner and this is usually like the end of spring, some player movement will take place as teams try and fine tune rosters.

okay, I did some checking around to got a few opinions on some teams and figured to put a top 10 list together. Like anything else, this is merely one person's opinion.
1) EC Braves - Consistently the best team in GA, playing the bigger field so they went out and got some speed. Great athletes = great defense.
2) Stealth Bomberz - This team can light you up for 12 runs in a heartbeat, consistently a top 3 team.
3) Shiloh Titans - Won 90% of their games last season, beat the Rays, 643 Cougars and other top ten teams last spring. Added some scoring punch to the team which they'll need in majors next spring.
4) EC Stars - This was a tough one for me because of their record vs. other major teams (1-7) but someone told me they added 3 great athletes which should improve their defense and team speed.
5) Elite Gamers Red - Added some good players to an already top 10 team, deeper pitching staff could = depper tournament runs.
6) EC Longhorns - I hear they made the most roster moves of any team around adding players from 5 or 6 different teams. Early fall returns have been good but can they do it against the big boys in the spring?
7) GA Grays - They like to travel a little and play some different teams, good record against majors (9-8) should be about the same as last year.
8) EC Rays - Inconsistent fall record, probably due to juggling football player schedules. Some early buzz but haven't quite put it all together yet.
9) 643 Cougars - They could be ranked higher, I hear they like what they've added and should be stronger.
10) EC Titans - Coach K called them one of the best coached teams around, they'll need to keep games close and force the action using their speed and some small ball.
Anybody else I miss?

I think you made some great points.....However some teams listed had bad records but played mostly good talent....Other teams had incredible records but didn't play any great teams(mostly open and AAA tourneys). Our team last year played a lot of AAA tourneys and they did absolutely nothing to get us ready for major baseball other than we had a good suntan by the time we played major. The pitching and defense is MUCH MUCH MUCH better at the major level, and certain coaches(Braves and Stealth) will coach circles around coaches most other coaches in this age group. I think the top-2 is obvious, but I think the next 8 is much harder to rank. |

I think everyone agrees on the number #1 and #2 teams but to me, the next 4-5 are all interchangeable. Also, it looks like some of the stats mentioned are from USSSA which is only a small comparison of these teams.
It's a big move up from AAA for the Longhorns, Rays & Titans so we'll see if they can hang with the boys. Also, how does a team get stay at majors if they have a losing record vs. AAA teams?? |

I gave this list some more thought and there are some interesting comments regarding the teams. I noticed that all of the teams listed are the ones that most likely to play majors next season but I see a couple that would be .500 vs. the top AAA teams.
I enjoy pre-season polls as much as anybody but it's tough to list teams when they haven't played one game. I bet as many as 8 out of the 10 will be at the Slugfest in March and the spring frost, perhaps we'll get a better feeling on this whole thing? Now, the question is will all of these teams come out and play or will some hide?? |

Just wanted to clarify it before "some" out there turned it into some rumor that the Stars "are breaking up" etc..!
Unfortunately, we have lost our North Carolina player for the 2011 season. Logistically, travel with his brother playing at a very high level, the list goes on as to why it wont work this season. Great player, great kid, great family, He'll be missed in the dugout!
We will replace his spot if its a good fit for all involved.

I read all these reply to who the top 11u teams are.If you sleep on the Longhorns you will get beat. They have the best bats in the state and pitching that can go 7deep. Until the Gray's, Gamers, Stars step up and play somebody they have not showed me a thing. My top 5 teams 1)BRAVES 1A) LONGHORNS 3)STEALTH 4)GRAYS 5)I HAVE NO IDEA |

I normally sit back and let the pros hash it out on this type of topic. Some may disagree with my opinion on this and it is just my own opinion. However, I find it puzzling how grown ups get so passionate on ranking 5th and 6th graders. This is where travel ball looses focus at our age group. This is a solid topic for 13U-16U, but 11U? Really? I truly appreciate "madskills" post, with enough information to rationalize his list. Now, remove the numbers in front of the teams and it is the most relevant post under this thread. All of the teams mentioned are "top teams". There are some that are left out and will suprise people (Raptors, Yankees, Wills Park, Nationals, N.Gwinnett Bulldogs,Milton etc).
Point being, as I have stated before, this is such a talent rich state and we should feel blessed that our children have the opportunity to compete at this level week in and week out (see some of "papa's" post on 12U). It is about teaching these boys the game of baseball and competition. Funny how the coaches of these "top teams" seldom post, championing their rankings. They are focused on developing not just great ball players, but great young men as well (same for those that do not receive all the hype). Just my two cents! |

Heard the 11U 643 Cougars beat the 12U HP Chili Dogs and gave the 12U 643 Jags scare in the Woodbat being held at Larry Bell this weekend. Didn't hear how it ended today. Heard they played very sound defense, maybe a top 5 team come spring? |

Guys, the ranking of 5th and 6th graders is not limited to just this message board but it also happens in tennis, soccer, softball, basketball and other sports. Y'all are just fortunate to have something like this to say what you think and feel but believe me, it goes on the softball boards too. There is nothing wrong with talking about this kind of stuff as long as it doesn't get personal, I enjoy everyone's views whether I agree or not.
baseballnutz, as far as the 643 Cougars goes, you might be right. I have a friend on the 12U jags and he told me they were impressed with the 11U team much more then last season. The 12U jags are a major team so its a good measuring stick of how good they can be next season.

Go take a look at the B2C boards. They have 4 pages of trash being talked back and forth on 6U football! |

Best way to settle any discussion, get all of these teams and maybe the next 2-4 that make sense and have a tournament to decide it on the field. |

I think anytime your talking about the top teams in the state, there will not be many surprises since they are all very talented teams. Quite frankly, I've been really surprised by the Stealth and their defense/pitching. They have been the top team without a doubt, after that is where it gets interesting to me but my top 5 list is based on some early season games vs each other.
1) Stealth - Nobody has beat them this year, enough said.
2) EC Braves - I know they've lost a few games recently but key injuries have hurt them early this year, look for them to put it together and rebound later this month.
3) EC Longhorns - Great run this past weekend but can they do it week in and week out?? Perhaps the early season distractions have helped them gel
4) Shiloh Titans - Some key wins over top teams this Spring has them feeling good, made good run at super NIT. TC Backyard brawl will be another good test to prove they belong.
5) EC Rays - A couple of close losses to the Braves has given them confidence that they can compete, have wins over Longhorns and Shiloh in early season action.
Please take no offense, this is just jhmo and is for entertainment purposes only. |
