10th Annual 2019 Georgia/Florida Showdown NIT

"OPINIONS, OPINIONS, OPINIONS"

It's that time of year again.....

*Who is going to be the best of the best next spring?

*What 4 teams gives GA the best chance to win the belts/rings against the powerful FL teams? (must score runs but everyone knows "this" tournament format comes down to pitching, pitching and more pitching)

*Who deserves invites/consideration to represent GA (on AND off the field) in Valdosta GA in this age group?

Please reply or simply send me a private email at bubba.smith@usssa.com

Have a great day!!!

Definitely these teams should represent GA:
1. ECB Astros Orange
2. ECB Astros Navy
3. OP Sox
4. GA Jackets or Atl Mizuno

100%
OP Sox
ECB Navy
ECB Orange

The 4th team is up for debate, but the top (3) in Georgia are listed above. GA Jackets looked really good in last weekends TC tournament. Lost to the OP Sox 6-1 in the championship.

If you look at Jackets wins they haven't beat any teams I'd consider close to major IMO, and have gotten drug by the majors they did face. I'd put about 4 teams in front of Jackets

Corn Dawgs,

MC Mariners 12u is a very good team that Jackets beat at TC last weekend. This Jackets team passed the eye test for me and is certainly a top 10 maybe top 5 team already and I expect they will improve as they play more.

Curious who the 4 teams you have better than them?

Bandits, Showcase and Mizuno are all right there and capable of beating anyone on any given day. Not sure that last spot is 100% yet.

My top 4 today would be Orange, Navy, OP, Bandits. Bandits get my nod as they consistently compete well against top competition. And I have not seen enough yet of those that would replace them. When Spring kicks in, it will all sort itself out.

This age group has the potential to bring Georgia back a title that it has not seen from this group yet as Florida has won 2 in a row. If you have 4 solid teams, it helps everyone by putting pressure on their pitching staffs. Georgia teams did well last year but we still came up short, but definitely had the right 4 teams last year in this age group!

The Championship game between Op Sox and Ga Jackets wasn't even close on Sunday.
Game Changer shows one hit and 12 strikes outs by the Jackets in 6 innings.
Op scored in 4 of 6 innings
Cant compete in Valdosta if you cant pitch and hit.

I agree the top three spots are a no brainer, but the 4th spot is wide open.
Did any of you catch the comment from Usssa above - *Who deserves invites/consideration to represent GA (on AND off the field) in Valdosta GA in this age group?
Bandits might not met that requirement.

I'll agree with your handle name, but that's about it. Bandits based on what? Last year? Nowhere near the same squad. They're not one of the teams I'd put in front of the Jackets to answer your question.

For what it’s worth, MC Mariners had a chance to beat OP Sox in their pool game. Led several times. Ended in a tie.

Also of note, I think Jackets are a brand new, first year team, while OP Sox, Orange and Navy have been around for a while. To play the way they do as a first year team is a testament to the program.

Will be interesting see how spring breaks out.

Too difficult to judge after this fall season, especially with mostly 1 day tourneys. Some teams vying for respect while others simply working on development for Spring. The strong seemed to get stronger with Orange and OP. Didn’t see Navy so no way to judge impact of their changes. However, those 3 should be locks as they have the pitching depth to compete in the GA / FL format. Will be fun to see how the spring shakes out in this age group. Jackets and Mizuno definitely in the running and have made a strong impression this Fall.

No kidding, barely winning some games against mid grade teams and getting handled like this against a major, I don't know how all these 1st time posters can be serious haha. Here's the 4 that should go. Mizuno had the best showing so far, hands down.

Astros Orange
Astros Navy
OP
Mizuno Atl

I disagree with all of you. How about instead of taking everyone's opinion of who was the best last year or who was the best this Fall playing 1 day events with guys playing football or missing because of football.

How about this novel idea!!! Run a qualifying tournament at the end of March where the top 4 teams represent GA. Or even 2 events where the top 2 from each event represent GA. One in March and 1 in April. Also make it a bit of a different format. 1 Pool game followed by double elimination. Just saying actually earn it not have people who don't work for USSSA suggest it.

I'm in for this and if you need a field or park I am sure I can give a few options.

ABA, if everyone's opinion includes the same 3 teams, where's the beef? A tourney or 2 to to find the 4th team for Ga/Fl may be appropriate, but I think the facts speak for themselves regarding OP, Navy, and Orange.

ABA hasn't won a meaningful major tournament in years …. he must be speaking about AAA.

Here is the solution.
1. OP
2.Orange
3.Navy
4. Combine ABA, Mizuno, Bandits, Star, Showcase, Archer and GA Jackets and name the team "Georgia 4th Place". Lol!

What about the Sandy Plains Prowlers?

Beat ABA twice 11-7 and 8-2
Beat the Bandits 2-1
Beat Archer 7-3
Beat Showcase 10-5

If Sandy Plains wants to be talked about with the big boys. Come Spring they need to play in the events that the big boys play in.
Showcase and Bandits do that week end and week out.

Right or wrong, I do not believe many people believe SP can compete in the bigger events. I do not see SP advancing in bracket outside of the game their Ace pitches in.

BUT SP can prove us all wrong.
