The East Cobb Longhorns 14U will be returning in 2011 as the East Cobb Longhorns 15U.
We will continue to build on the success of the last few years and will retain most of our players from this year’s team. The 2011 Longhorns will be led by Head Coach Ben Abner. Ben has been a long time coach in major level travel baseball and is on the Varsity staff at Etowah High School. Ben does not have a son on the team. Dave Schmit, now in his 6th year at East Cobb, will manage the team.
Our approach for the 2011 season will be to:
1. Operate under a “lean” roster of 13-14 players to give maximum playing time. 2. Play a highly competitive schedule, including Perfect Game tournaments. 3. Play a combination of metal and wood bat tournaments at ECB and around Atlanta. Travel 1-2 times for national tournaments. 4. Practice 2 times per week and play approximately 60 games. 5. Focus on each player to improve their skills and understanding of the game.
We take pride in our culture that combines teamwork, individual player development and making the game enjoyable. If you want to be a part of the 2011 East Cobb Longhorns 15U, please make contact by email to Dave Schmit at schmit1@bellsouth.net. Please let us know about your past experience and expectations.
We expect to operate much as we did last year regarding statistics and use them as information to help players understand where they stand and what they need to work on to improve. We also spend as much or more time on the intangibles that make a ballplayer complete both on and off the field.
We will using the East Cobb tryouts on August 14/15 to do our evaluations and not be holding any tryouts before. If you have interest, please email to Dave Schmit at schmit1@bellsouth.net with past experience and expectations for the coming season. This information will help us focus our needs on selected players during the tryouts.

i embrace the idea of coaches displaying statistics puts everything out in the open and shows player also Dad and Mom how he is truthfully doing on the field
The East Cobb Longhorns 15U want to thank all the players who reached out to us leading up to, during and after the tryouts. There were many talented players from which to choose. Our roster is complete for the fall. We will post any additional needs at the end of the fall season. We wish everyone well in finding a team.
