Announcing a new 15U Major travel ball team forming for 2011 – the 15U Georgia Stars
The 15U Georgia Stars coaches are recruiting and evaluating prospective players to form a highly competitive, Major level travel team that will provide players with superior training, knowledge and the highest level of competition possible. An independent travel ball team who will not have the challenges for competing for practice field time that can be found by playing for teams affiliated with a league or organization, the Georgia Stars will have at least two fields available for practices and will practice out of the Gwinnett area. For more information on the Georgia Stars, visit our website at http://www.georgiastars.com//
A group tryout/evaluation will be held on Saturday, July 31st, from 5-7:00 p.m. with a prospective parents meeting being held afterwards from 7-7:30 p.m. If your son is interested in attending the tryout, please contact the Stars coaches at georgiastarscoach@gmail.com. In your email be sure to provide some information about your son's playing experience, positions and the team(s) he played on last season. The coaches will respond promptly to your email and provide additional information regarding the tryout, including the location. The coaches are especially interested in players who are strong, experienced pitchers, but they will be evaluating players at all positions defensively as well as offensively. One of the coaches will respond to your email promptly.
The goal of the coaches is to encourage and foster the team’s love of baseball while providing them with the training and opportunities to increase the level of each player's skill and knowledge of the game so that they can be successful at whatever level of baseball they pursue beyond travel ball, whether it is their high school team, college or beyond.
The Georgia Stars will be coached by head coach Edward Waters and coaches Pascanel Ferreras and Vincent Moss. A 4th pitching coach will be announced shortly. They all have proven records of developing talented, highly competitive, exceptional athletes. As former collegiate and professional (MLB and Dominican Republic) baseball players and/or travel ball coaches, they collectively have over 25 years of competitive travel ball coaching experience and provide advanced skill development and expert baseball instruction to committed players in a competitive environment. They combine superior instruction on the fundamentals of baseball techniques, game strategies, structured practices, game experience, and exposure to championship tournament play to enhance the players' chances for success at the high school, college and professional levels.
Coach Waters played 12 years of AA, AAA, and Major League Baseball, playing with the Chicago Cubs and Texas Rangers from 1990 - 1996. From 1996-1998 he was the hitting coach for Division II Marycrest International University in Davenport, Iowa; the team won the Christian College Division II Championship while he was their coach. He has coached 12 years of competitive travel baseball. In addition to his travel ball experience, he has provided individual training to travel ball, collegiate and professional players.
One of the major supporters of the Georgia Stars is Brian Jordan, former major league baseball player for the Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Texas Rangers, former NFL player for the Atlanta Falcons, current pre-game analyst for the Atlanta Braves on Braves Live, television commentator for the Gwinnett Braves, humanitarian, and founder of the Brian Jordan Foundation.
The Georgia Stars will excel through commitment to a goal, good sportsmanship, teamwork, and a winning attitude. There will always be an emphasis on respecting each other and the game of baseball.
The Georgia Stars will play 2-3 fall tournaments. The players will focus on conditioning and HS baseball tryout preparation through the Winter break until HS baseball season starts. There will be flexibility and the coaches will work around high school schedules, with the team accelerating practices to prepare for playing showcase level and major level tournaments beginning in May throughout the summer.
The Georgia Stars will be a Major team and the coaches are looking for serious players with a serious commitment level. There will be absolutely NO DADDY BALL on this team; each and every player will play their position and spot in the lineup based on performance, commitment, determination and team attitude.
