Posted - 05/12/2015 : 23:16:05 Hi to all, first post. My son has played travel ball in SEGA for the last 4yrs. He currently plays on an 11U local team that basically amounts to a local all-star group. We finished third in state last year in our demographic.
I'm looking for some advice on a BB bat that will begin to prepare him for the eventual move to BBCOR. He's 5-2, 117, and has a strong swing and quick hands. He currently uses an XL1 31/21 and swings it with control and ease. He's very much a power hitter and has quite a few homers to his credit. I'm looking to move him to something with less drop and am seeking advice on choices. He's been using a wood bat for soft-toss/tee work to develop swing speed and control of a heavier bat. He has always used Eastons and I have received excellent customer service from the company, but we aren't blindly loyal to any brand. I bought him a 31/21 Mako 2.75 last year. He used it a little but never gave up the XL. The Mako has sat in the closet for nearly a year. I'm looking for recommendations for a -8 2 5/8 in a 22-23oz weight. I'm leaning toward to the XL1 but would like to hear other's choices and any pro/cons of the XL. |

You can't go wrong with the XL1 -8 . It is clearly the hottest bat on the market this year in my opinion. It is hot right out of the wrapper, has a large sweet spot and only gets better with each swing from what I've seen. My grandson swings one and absolutely is crushing the ball this year. We haven't found a con on the XL1 yet, the bat is holding up very well and is being used by a lot of players this year.
My son is also swinging the drop 8 XL1.......The only con is that we will need a new grip soon....but he takes a LOT of swings.
He finally hit one over the fence with it......it didn't just go over the fence, but it went WAAAYY over the fence, deep into a tree; I'll never forget it
Frankly, I think he'd hit alot more of them if the coach didnt always make him take the first pitch |
