Does anybody know if there are any "real" feeder teams for this high school? Looks like they have three 13U teams and two 14U teams out of Suwanee along with the Suwanee Stix and some other 13-14U teams from the Suwanee area also, but it's hard to tell if those are NG, Lanier or Collins Hill kids or what.

Can anybody close to this area shed some light?

The answer to this question is complex. Most of the boys on the GGBL teams you are referring to will attend North Gwinnett, but not all. Thus, they do not conform to a precise definition of "feeder teams". There are no County Public Educators involved in any of these teams that I know of. The Coaches are typically Dads of players, just like most other places.

Some boys who were originally slated to attend North, will now attend the new Lanier High School that opened last year. North had become overcrowded, so a new High School had to be built to take some of the students from the Suwanee area. Some of North's GGBL baseball players will attend other neighboring Gwinnett County High Schools such as Collins Hill, Buford, Dacula, Peachtree Ridge, just to name a few. Some might go to Private High School like GAC.

I'd guess, that on average, 7 of 11 players on all GGBL North Gwinnett teams will attend North's High School. Some might have 100% North boys, some might have less. There might be a rule restricting how many non-North boys a GGBL team can have, but I don't recall for sure. That is a park by park issue in Gwinnett. Each Gwinnett park is controlled by a not-for-profit association that has a Board of elected volunteers. Most, but not all, of these Board members are parents of players. They can decide to some extent how many non-North Gwinnett boys can play on GGBL travel teams that use George Pierce Park. I don't think they can require that 100% of the boys on their GGBL teams must live in the high schools geo boundary though. I don't think the County will allow that. The County prefers for its residents to have some level of choice.

George Pierce Park might also be home park to teams that play travel baseball but that do not play in GGBL. Those teams might just use the parks fields to practice on, or host a scrimmages on. I think that requires Board approval, so it helps to be on the Board to get special access to the parks fields, but not play in GGBL. I don't think there are any 13u or 14u teams that fit this description at this time, but I left that park 5 years ago and have lost track of things a bit. 99% of my focus is on 12U.

Then, there are teams predominantly made up of players who will attend North Gwinnett High School that don't use George Pierce Park at all, don't play in GGBL, but have found a field to practice on, and play travel baseball w/o any league or park affiliation. Suwanee Stix are one I can think of like this in 13U.

I told you it was complex. There's just no easy way to answer your question. The President of North's Baseball Board participates on this Board, so maybe he can clarify all this further, or correct any errors I might have made.

rippit,

As best I know the teams in the GGBL are not necessarily feeder teams. While the team names reflect the local high school, the make-up of the team comes from the local park. I am not saying that they are not feeder teams, but they might not be. I would email the individual head coaches or the high school coach and ask.
