Posted - 03/29/2014 : 09:12:40 From what I am hearing and seeing a bad message is being sent and a bad lesson being taught to a lot of high school baseball players out there. Kids are being allowed to fail 3,4,5,6 classes without any real ramifications. Jogging a few laps after practice is nothing to a 15-18 year old athlete. I have personally seen these same kids get to college or the real world and they get confused as to why they are no longer rewarded or allowed to just skate by. As they fail at things after high school they blame their college coach, or their drill sergeant, or their boss - when if anyone is to blame other than themselves, its their HS coach for allowing them to skate through high school.
Curious as to what your high school coaches are doing about players with poor grades. At what point does a player get disciplined? What is the corrective action? If grades are extremely poor (example failing 3 or more classes) are coaches suspending players from the team, or not allow they to play? |
