Interested in everyones thoughts on this. A head coach of a 10U team has taken his boy and others on the team to Hooters in between tournament games on several occasions, bought them Hooters Waitress Trading Cards which shows girls in skimpy lingerie. These boys carry these cards around in their bat bags and share them with those kids on the team without any concern or regard for the other kids or parents. Is it wrong for the coach to not only condone this but encourage this type of behavior?

CoachDad, sometimes I don't go where the team gos for other reasons. Bottom line, if I don't like it we just don't go... I don't think Hooters exploits woman. Woman have a choice and they choose to be exploited. They don't have to work there, just like I don't have to go there. Not everybody go's there for the women. The wings are actually very good. BTW, NO Hooters girl has anything on my HOT friend. Forget Hooters she could destract the team if she comes to the ball games.

I don't care if you think that Hooter's is good harmless fun. I think that it is a place that shamelessly exploits women and preys on a sad subgroup of males.

If you take my child to Hooter's we will have a problem. Period. You do not want to have problems with a person like me ... or my wife.

As long as there is the possibility that there is one of me on your team's roster of parents, a coach should not take the team to Hooter's.

Sorry I got way-layed by a couple of scrimmage games...

LMAO!!! I asked him "Hey ______, what are hooters?"

He said (in a high pitched voice as he grabbed his chest with a GREAT BIG SMILE ON HIS FACE!!)..."T--ties!!!!!

Okay. So now we know...

Is this athletics or the church choir?

Hooters isn't that big of a deal, IMO. They have food, women have breasts -- those are natural things in life. Its not a strip club. If you don't want your child involved, I can understand that, then just choose to go somewhere else. You shouldn't be forced to go anywhere as a team.

With the way a lot of kids are acting today, I think you should support them and be happy that they like women.

After all of the opinions, my question is...How do you answer when one of the kids asks why they name it Hooters?

We can't control what John Q Public does, bikini's at the beach, Mom's and sisters wearing less than Hooters girls at games, etc. But we can dictate what we will allow our young children to be a part of in a team function. As a coach we have to walk a very careful line to make sure we are doing what is best for the kids, not our egos after a game or tournament. I didn't scream and yell at the coach, I just let him know I was disappointed he would think so little of my son and my family. We all have differing views about this, the fun part of being individuals, and the great part of being in a team family. This is for the kids, not the adults. Catch a fews beers in your hotel room if you are on the road, or hit the bar after the team calls it a night. But remember, they are watching you as an adult who has their hearts and minds during the season, you do affect how they perceive life.

ball..i should clarify..i wouldnt take 10yr olds to some of those places..older kids yes

and there is a difference in what you do or where you go as a team and where parents take kids. Last i saw panama city didnt have games on the beach it is at a complex. And i dont remember any hot babes in bikini's. I missed all the fun

I would rather my son be exposed to Hooters' girls than to listen to some of the trash they call music these days !!
ItsjustLLBBall Posted - 06/01/2010 : 19:54:58
Whits...so then you can't take your kids to panama city anymore,,,,Bikini's on the beach are a lot skimpier than the hooters outfits and drinking and smoking goes on a lot worse down there..

Our coach decided after losing in a tough tournament that they would take the kids to Hooters and have a couple of beers also. We weren't with that team after that. A personal choice for my young ones. Not a judgement against them as adults, but not a smart choice for 10U boys, in my opinion. Am I stuffy, maybe to some others, but life is tough enough without having my boys thinking beer and b__bs are the thing to do after a game.

I agree with oldmanmj....had a thing a couple of years back were a coach wanted to give the boys (9-10 YO) Red Bull before a night game during the week. We were the only parent that said no. It taught my son you don't have to give in to peer pressure. If you think it is wrong say so it's your child.

Took my son to Hooters too. He impressed others players and coaches by eating 3 mile hot wings. Harmless IMO . Was not aware of trading cards . How did the team do after being exposed to the cards ? If they did good , I would say keep them in the bag. If it was a distraction just give them to dad.
whits23 Posted - 06/01/2010 : 13:08:12
kids should not be taken near alcohol as a team event period or around smoking.
It amazes me to see coaches chewing tobacco or parents smoking at youth events.

..as far as going to hooters, not good idea as a team event, but on the other hand have you been to the local pool lately? i think hooters is mild compared to what i see. And some of the local mom's are almost dressed in hooters outfits at a lot of games. Thanks!!

I am also not big on teaching kids to play texas hold em in hotel rooms or in school
BaseballMomof2 Posted - 06/01/2010 : 12:54:09
I've been to hooters. Not a place I want my 14 year old to go, let alone a 10 year old. There are to many other family friendly choices where the coach can have his beer and the kids aren't exposed to girls with their butts and boobs hanging out of their clothing. just MHO.
PerfectGame Posted - 06/01/2010 : 00:54:49
Absolutely inappropriate. Especially the trading cards. Wow.

our coaches have joked since 7u that we would go to hooters after each tournament victory, never actually happened, but to this day when asked where they want to go it's always hooters. if the mommas missed a tournament it may happen.
