3 of the 4 Region 7 teams (North Gwinnett area and Forsyth) won their first round series with North Gwinnett, Collins Hill and Mill Creek advancing. In Region 8 (Southern Gwinnett county area) Parkview advances and Brookwood's playing their deciding game Sunday at 2.
If Brookwood can take game 3, 5 of the 8 Region 7 and 8 teams will have advanced. South Forsyth, Central Gwinnett and Grayson fell.
Surprising that South Forsyth got routed in their first round match up after having such a great season.
From the same Northern Gwinnett area, Buford and Hebron also advanced in small school 1st rounds.
These parts of the ATL metro don't do a very good job of aggregating talent for 8U-14U travel ball, but when High School rolls around, they stack up quite well.
Now, let's see how far they can get in the brackets.
I see this year as the first in a long Mill Creek run. They have strong talent in 9-14u coming up, and some studs playing elsewhere that will return to the Hawks nest for High School.

Gwinnett County sweeps state in class A,AA,AAAAA.
Way to go Hebron Christian Academy, Buford (I thought they were all about Football there), and Parkview. Way to represent!

Heard today (Saturday) starting at 4. Heard Harrison won game one 8-6. I'll come back if I hear anything new. |

I know that Calhoun is a SMALLER school and not in the COBB or ATL area but this year they are 33-0 playing for the state championship..Ringgold is also play in their class also..That's a little something the real North Georgia can be proud of... |

Allstar, you may want to correct what you mean. They have been in the state playoffs every year since 1992. There have been quite a few years, including last year when they did not make the State Championship round. Don't get me wrong, I have a few good friends sons that play for that team, and they are good. A great program and great time for a first year head coach. Good luck to both teams, will be a great series. Way to Cobb County-Baseball rich! |

Every Lassiter class since 1992 has played for a state championship.
This year's Seniors would have been the first since then to have been shut out. They were 6-6 at one point. 26-8 going into the State.

North Gwinnett will not be moving down to AAAA they will remain AAAAA even with the opening of LHS. LHS expected enrollment for 2010-2011 is 800. It will be awhile before Lanier moves up. Just thought that I would clarify. |

Stretch ... Lassiter's #10 has committed to GA, although he's also getting looks by MLB scouts. Last I heard, his post-HS baseball career will focus on catching. Lassiter hosts Harrison for the 5A championship on Friday night, and the IF game is Saturday. |

Went to see Lassiter's last 4 games. #10 is just a stud. Throws low to mid 90's and when not pitching is the starting catcher. Harrison and N.Gwinnett split their 1st 2 games. State Championship starts Friday I think. |

North's SS is the real deal. He's punched his ticket to TN. 1st baseman's huge and can crush it, and they have 3 very strong pitchers. I think they have 4 scholarship players to date. Their Freshman team did well too, so their future looks bright. They too might be moving down to AAAA due to the new Lanier High School coming on line this Fall. North has a very short porch, so pitchers learn to keep it down.

I agree bmoser with your comments. The travel ball scene in Gwinnett is not as developed as EC although in the past few years it has attempted to put some very competitive teams together. Three years ago, the Coal Mountain Raiders who then became the North GA Bombers qualified for the Elite 24 and did very well, with several Gwinnett kids. In the past couple of years ProSpot Fitness Athletics, Warhawks and Team Gwinnett have fielded very good teams. The interesting part to this equation is North Gwinnett, Buford, Peachtree Ridge, Parkview, Collins Hill and Mill Creek all have future players on these teams so I agree that the trend of strong Gwinnett HS ball will continue.
Also, Team Elite out of Winder has a very competitive team for the 15U to 18U group where a lot of the top Gwinnett HS players opt for. |

I am not surprised South Forsyth got beat - they had lost 5 of 7 at the end of the regular season. The bigger surprise is North Gwinnett winning over Milton. North Gwinnett was on a winning roll late - but they basically were handed the Northview and Peachtree Ridge games to barely make the playoffs.
Collins Hill and Mill Creek are definitely title contenders. |
