Opinions :

When should the “thought” of “Where will we play next year” come to mind?? When is it too late?

I've found that most players/families start fairly early because once the summer season ends Try-outs for FALL starts and want to commit to their teams for the next season......

G-man speaks "theTRUTH"

Also as taboo as it might be it also becomes necessary to leave teams because of coaching. I personally admire anyone who volunteers to coach a youth sport. However even though intentions may be honorable it doesnt mean some people should coach at these levels. You have to remember that at these younger ages the coaches and players that these young men play for and with will probably have the biggest influence on them till they reach their 15 or 16 years old teams. At these ages these players are molding their habits, work ethics, knowledge of the game, skill mechanics and other aspects of baseball whether they be good or bad.

I think for the kids who are coming back to the team, they know before the current season is over. It's the kids who won't be coming back that will be told that this is the end of the road for them.

Parents need to be careful about inquiring into other teams before the season is over, many coaches know each other and it's tough to keep these secret. There is plenty of time to look for another team in mid-July to the end of August.

I also think the coach should have knowledge of the game and PUSH all players on his team to be the best they can be and to get the MOST out of that player. At the "younger" age groups you may not be as rough because you don't want to burn the player out! As you get older you MUST be pushed if you want to take it to the next level, because you're NOT competing against the "Travel Ball" players in the area you're competing with hundreds/thousands of other players in the country!!!

Changing teams is part of the youth sports culture. Todays youth sports is different from youth sports even 5 years ago. Today parents are really taking a more proactive role in their childs sporting endeavors. Because of this parents will always be looking for what may benefit their ball player the most, whatever their reasons are. Its really no different than professional sports. The pro athlete is willing in most cases to switch teams to whomever the highest bidder is or who ever has the best chance the make it to the World Series. At the youth level its the same principle just different reasons.

As mentioned by some of you if you are leaving a team to go to a better team or a team that plays better competition then there is nothing wrong with leaving.

I can honestly say that until my son reaches the age of 15 or 16 yrs old. I dont want him to be the best player on a team. I always want someone to be better than he is. The reason is because I know because of that competitive nature he will always strive and work hard to reach the level of those players above him. This in my opinion helps him to create that good solid work ethic and drive that is needed for high school and college baseball. So sometimes you might leave a team because as a parent you dont feel your child is being challenged enough by the present team he is playing for.

As parents we all want whats best for our kids. Sometimes that requires us to make decisions that others might view as being a bad decision. However its a decision that we feel is best for our child at that time. Whether its for coaching reasons, competition reasons, winning or losing reasons, playing time, position being played or any other reason we deem as parents might benefit our kids growth and development in baseball. So me personally I never fault any child or parent for leaving a team no matter what their reasons. Who am I as a coach or parent to judge what some other parent deems as being best for THEIR child.

People switch teams for many different reasons. I know after how successful my nephews team was last season it would be hard for him to play for a mediocre team. Also some coaches/organizations guarantee success to attract the top level players and then when they cannot deliver players leave. The only reasons our family has ever decided to go somewhere else is to play with a more talented team and to compete against tougher competition.

I think that the PARENTS are most of the reason players move fror the RIGHT and WRONG reasons..If a player is not playing or being taught then you may need to find a new team..If a team is not winning as much as the parent thinks may be the wrong reason to leave and look for another team...If a player is leaving for a BETTER team or a team that better fits his skills is a great thing..But you see some players hop around like a lil flea, and most of the time there is a reason...PARENTS

That is very true...I have just noticed from our years in travel ball there is very rarely any loyalty in the travel ball community. The travel ball concept has changed so much in the last ten years, back in the day there were only 20 teams for each age and they were always really really good teams. Now it seems that anybody who wants to play travel ball can find a team that they fit with. That is why usually the good kids are getting offers during the season and I believe most coaches are already thinking and discussing who would be cut at the end of the year.

I totally agree with both. Most times when something comes up, it would have to be in best interest of the player and will he get better!!! I think it also causes problems however sometimes a team is needed because of how quickly Fall starts.

I know this is wishful thinking but in my opinion all talks about next season should take place after this season is over, too many times rumors get started about who is coming back and who isn't. It becomes a big distraction to the team and in some cases ends the season on a bad note.

We are always looking at our options. I don't want to ever let my nephew miss an opportunity to play with a better more advanced team, especially if the new team will play even better talent. It is hard to juggle the commitment you have made but I have noticed most parents find a way to put their players best interest up front.
