I do not know how much this site allows honest criticism of tournaments but i can tell you that you do not always get what is advertised and i think its worth sharing. You always hear about working scoreboards, pitching records, updated web sites, drug fields or even the same fields as advertised and i can tell you already that is not always the case.

Once the path is established, which he did while attempting to advance from second to third, he now must limit his movements within the confines of that basepath. It's a judgement call, but I've had several umpires over the years explain it to me as above.

Well, yes and no. The reason that he can run as wide as he likes around the bases is that there is nobody trying to tag him. Once someone tries to tag him FROM WHEREVER HE IS, the "baseline" is a direct line between the runner and the base they are attempting to get to. See Rule 7.08.(a).(1) that I posted above.

7.08
Any runner is out when --
(a) (1) He runs more than three feet away from his baseline to avoid being tagged unless his action is to avoid interference with a fielder fielding a batted ball. A runner’s baseline is established when the tag attempt occurs and is a straight line from the runner to the base he is attempting to reach safely;

OK guys. Let me know if this ump made the right call.
Situation:
We're on defense. Runner on second base gets picked off and caught in a rundown. He's going to 3rd, stops six ft before the bag changes directions and veers out toward where shortstop sets up (Magellan route) headin back to second and gets there safely. the coaches argue that he was out of baseline and should be out. THE UMP says no. "as soon as he stopped and redirected his path to second he can run 'anywhere' he wants. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN ON SUNDAY on a rundown between first and second. The baserunner ran on the infield grass. The runner was tagged out but the coaches argued same thing again. The umps response: "the runner can go highfive the rightfielder if he wants and would not be called out."
Now, there is no way that can be right unless we're playing circus baseball, right?

I agree I saw a 13u game where ZZ top was umpiring LOL and he blew several calls behind the plate. One was a balk with a runner stealing home and the other was a call at the plate. One of the coaches questioned him and he threw the coach out. It wasnt very good officiating in the 13u games I saw playing behind us.

We played in both the Forsyth County Slugfest at Central Park and the Super NIT at the Grissiom Field of Dreams in Conyers and the umpiring was fine in both venues. We played in the 13u AAA division in both and didn't hear any complaints.

Forsyth's Slugfest and East Cobb's Triple Crown event were great. ATPP and EC are awesome, and the fields were excellent. Umps were unbiased, and knew the rules. Same strike zone for both teams. Restrooms were being cleaned, and concessions were fairly priced. Ample parking, fields dragged for all our games.

One overflow facility had no concessions, and we had back to back games there. I followed the rules and didn't bring a cooler, so had to leave the park to buy food and bring it back. I'm packing a cooler and leaving it in the car from now on.

Our Saturday pool games ran 1+ hour behind at both events, and those delays were not weather related, but I can understand why that happens.

We're heading South side next, and the bar has been raised by what I have experienced thus far.

We played in a Nations Tourney in Winder and had an umpire that was awful. He showed up with an attitude and was looking for someone to toss. Luckily the TD was there and had a talk with him during the game. In fact I think he was asked to leave after the game.

Pitching mounds at lovejoy....thank Goodness we move to the big fields next year!

Maybe it was because we played at the younger, AA age. But telling the kids this was this big tourney, then playing at a park with two fields and no usable batting cage was a bit of a let down. Other then the guy collecting a fee at the gate, you would never had known this was anything but a scrimmage game.

-Now the kid's still had fun playing some of the best in the state. And I had fun watching.

The Slugfest and Super NIT...Two of the bigger tournaments of the year in Georgia and sub par umpiring for both. We all know bad calls will happen, but as long as it happens both ways I'm ok with it. I only ask for consistency even if it's bad and fair. My problem has been to the degree of how bad the calls have been on both sides and the lack of knowledge of the rules of some umpires. I watched a 13U Major game on Sunday (NOT N.O. Monarchs and Roadrunners) and a coach from both teams was ejected. I felt the pain of each because the same umpire crew called our game previously. How often do you see a coach from both teams sent to the parking lot in a game that is not that close? Why would a coach that is up by a good margin get ejected? Ridiculously horrible calls, that's why.
