What are the best shoes for pitching in the older age groups ...
molded rubber cleats, turf shoes, or sneakers?

Molded rubber cleats without a doubt!

Have turfs as a back up though because on SUPER hot days the molded cleats can actually start to melt.

As a side note, it has been discussed in detail on another board that some of the mounds at LP have wear and tear issues. If your son gets on the mound and realizes there is a hole, or something is loose, he should tell the umpires immediately. A 17u kid went down last week hard on his knee when a troublesome spot let loose during his delivery. The mounds are the responsibility of Lakepoint, but PG has told LP that any mound issues are the be addressed IMMEDIATELY!

I think that will be up to the kid on the mound........have him try different shoes and make up his own mind. Your pitcher needs to be confident in that he is wearing the best shoes he can for the job at hand.

My son's team used molded. This way, he could use them for regular fields, as well.
