Posted - 07/10/2017 : 12:30:32 I saw an old 2016 discussion regarding the "upcoming" age changes that Little League announces for 2018 (Aug 31st cutoff, instead of April 30th). Well, 2018 is right around the corner and I still can't find any reliable information regarding how this affects my boys (May and July birthdays). From what I can find, this only current affects Little League and Pony Leagues. USSSA, Babe Ruth, and Cal Ripken leagues have not changed (yet). From my research, I don't believe any of the area Rec or travel leagues are changing their age limits (still use April 30th cutoff)... however Cooperstown "may" use Little League rules, so if you want to plan ahead and have your son play in Cooperstown... you may want to adjust now.
Can anyone confirm if the above is correct? I'm not too worried about my 13 year old (just completed Cooperstown), but I want to ensure my 9 year old is playing in the correct age group starting this fall. Any assistance is appreciate.
Update: Timing is everything. Cooperstown Dreams Park just responded to my email from a couple of weeks ago. They state that they were aware of the Little League age cutoff change, but Dreams Park has no current plans to change their age cutoff date. Looks like I answered my own question and all is ok in the baseball world... but hopefully this is helpful for someone else. |
