Posted - 02/04/2010 : 16:35:57 A good friend told me recently that they read the posts daily, but don't post themselves. Everyone has opinions, but I get the feeling that only a small portion are willing to share them. I don't think there's a more friendly travel baseball forum than this one. As a chronic poster, I'd like to see some more new faces (nothing against the regular mugs). If I can do it, anyone can (no comments from the peanut gallery). |

Posted - 02/15/2010 : 00:19:39 People don't always have the time to post. Busy schedules being what they are, posting is time consuming. First you got to gather your thoughts, then type well enough - all without being redundant.
Also, the commitment to a topic is more than some care to get into. 'Cause once you've posted and someone offers a counterpoint, you're almost obligated to reply to that post and counter the counter-post and so on and so forth - some threads can get long, ya know.
Lastly, I want to say that I, too, participate in other discussion groups, and this one is - by far - one of the most cordial and respectful around. No doubt a credit to the moderator and the frequent contributors.

Posted - 02/13/2010 : 20:21:41 yarddog: You can be sure that baseballpapa has had many posts that didn't make the cut but what I tried to do was to post again and tone the rhetoric down and try not to make my posts sound like a personal attack aimed at another poster. I think that this moderator does a great job of keeping things in perspective and making sure that this site is one that the kids can read and that the site stays more on the positive side of things. |

Posted - 02/12/2010 : 23:12:23 I don't post much. However, the times I do and disagree with another poster my comments are not added to the board. It's hard to get difference of opinions when only one side of the argument is heard. I'm thinking about changing my screen name to papabaseball just so I have a voice. JMHO. |

I posted a topic a while back and no one but Alter-ego replied, so I just lurk now. |

Posted - 02/10/2010 : 14:34:15 moser must a real self made man to have it to the Fortune 500. Papa only made it up to the Unfortunate 11. I do have a real world job but when I get back home the first thing that I do is to catch up on the youth baseball world. |

Posted - 02/10/2010 : 07:21:05 I don't think its ever a waste of time, but I do think the amount of leisure time a baseball Dad/Coach has will impact his posting activity level. I haven't had a "real job" in 8 years (they keep extending unemployment, and that covers my tourney gate/concession costs) so have ample time to attend tourneys, and tell story's. I would have never had the time during my Fortune 500 days, or would have been too tired.

Posted - 02/09/2010 : 10:32:12 I participate on several boards...seems to me there is always a group whom participate that like to read what they write ( similar to hearing themselves talk ! ). I like a diversified response from a variety of folks. Gives me a better perspective of where people are coming from with their opinions. I truly have an appreciation for the open discussions where I can get FACTS and it may change my opinion ! I see too many folks with closed minds, stuck in their way and their opinions regardless of the facts.
Gas for gas sake is just that....gas ! |

I won't change identities, so I'll retire like Lomax. I sure do miss him, but by 1000 posts, you've said all you have to say. I only have a few more topics left in me that might spur any interest whatsoever. They don't come as easily as they once did. The end is near.

Posted - 02/06/2010 : 11:02:35 I chime in from time to time when I think I have something to add. I can tell you I visit other boards quite regular and this one is much more civilized. Other boards can be brutal if you post a differing opinion. |

Posted - 02/06/2010 : 10:55:09 I've belong to several forums on many different topics over many years and it is always the same...it is the nature of the net I suppose...they are known as "Lurkers"...people who watch the conversations but hardly if ever write anything...As the athletes say now days "It is what it is".... |

Posted - 02/05/2010 : 15:17:50 Having been guilty of sponging off the many interesting comments I am often reluctant to offer differing opinions fearing that I may offend someone (we are all parents or grandparents {which makes us a parent too} and generally do not take to critiscism of our young lads or our efforts to support thier/our love of this game). That being said I think the only dialogue missing on most of these links/blogs is candid disagreement. Disagreement is often where new ideas or paradign thoughts are born. To those reading these posts, let's step up and share all of our comments, both in agreement and disagreement. |

gasbag: #1 learned a lesson in humility. He is a good athlete and he felt that this would automatically carry over into his wrestling career. He went as far as to tell me that he was going to win them all. First match out he met up with a kid that had been wrestling since he was 4 and several time state champion in the youth divisions. He tore big boys head up and had him twisted like a pretzel before the ref slapped the mat. Papa was crying he was laughing so hard. Papa was runner up state champion back in the day and I knew fully well that wrestling is very unique and not to be taken lightly. A very good lesson for my boy and after all was said and done he won about 1/2 of the matches. I can't wait to see you guys and hope you are doing well.
That's one heck of a rookie season going +- 500. ! There is no other sport like wrestling which can humble a soul. They either raise your hand, or your opponents and there is no one to blame the loss or win on but yourself. To date, I have found wrestling the best teacher of life lessons and self learning and insight. I'll tell you another thing, No. 1 grandson will have increased his already Sampson like strength / quickness and knock the cover off of the ball this season. I can't wait to see you guys up at the ball fields !
