How'd the meetings go yesterday in McDonough and Cordele?
Did the topic arise of not entering players names precisely as they appear on their Birth Certificate?

As long as there is one date and that date applies to every team then they should be no problem at all. |

yeah, that's true, and it's selfish thinking for me to hope for a change (any change), and if my son stays the course, it will pay off for him in the long run. Come H.S. Freshman team tryouts, he'll be competing against 10U players when he's now playing 11U.

I will vouch for the JB Athletics claims. If you are 14U and they are hosting a tournament at West Walton Legion Field you will want to play. The field is fabulous and the grounds crew is constantly doing field maintenance.
It has covered stadium type, seating, real dugouts and a high school like playing surface. One of the better playing surfaces on this side of town. |

I would prefer to go back to the Aug 1st birthday. It lines up a lot better with the school year than Jan 1st does.
BTW, USA Baseball already uses calendar year as their cutoff. To me, they use it wrong though. Typically a birthdate cutoff says "Whatever you are prior to that date is the age you play." but USA baseball says "If you turn 14 any time during 2010, you are to play at that age." That is a big difference for a kid that has a Dec 31st birthday. Especially since if you switch to it, that kid loses an age group of play because you just made him go up an age group. |

Amen to that, but I asked Matt and he said USSSA will follow USA Baseball, so then I went to USA baseball's site, and no mention of it.
Some have made a big deal out of the 11U Bandits playing a few 12u tourneys this Spring, but if your son has a April birth date, he's playing up like that all the time. It's a grind for sure. I'd settle for a 1-year reprieve. Makes them better in the long run blah, blah, blah...easy for you to say.

JB Athletics at the usssa coaches meeting:
They introduced themselves, described their venues, handed out a list of their tourneys, explained some scenarios where they'd work with coaches for rain outs and tourneys that failed to make, and stated that they didn't have a rain out last year (or maybe only 1, I forget) due to Monroe draining so well and their field work after the rains subside. I've seen this firsthand, and will support their claim (for Monroe anyway). They are somewhat relaxed about coolers, and just asked for some common sense restraint. Seemed to be very sincere, and customer focused. We've always had good experiences in Monroe except for mens restroom and bees (which wouldn't keep us away anyway). They also touted a stadium-like facility (Legion Field?)where the older boys play that sounded very nice indeed.
I wasn't taking notes, I'm deaf in 1 ear, and my brain is filled with disappearing ink, so sorry for any mistakes, or omissions.
Oh, I remember now, they also gave out a Coaches wife free gate-pass for the 2010 season to be used at any of their events. I was glad for that because my wife always yells at me about her having to pay $5...that's why the bad ear :(
Anyway...I liked them both, and that's what matters most to me.

LLH: USSSA pitching is counted by 3rds of a innning. 1 OUT = 1/3 , 2 OUTS = 2/3 and so on. If a kid does not record a out, he didn't pitch as far as records go. |

Am considering entering my team some of their events as I like the set-up they have over in Monroe. Just curious - no biggie if you'd rather not.

Are we counting 1 pitch as an inning? Or are we counting outs. With these changes I would probably want to play on some Friday nights to be able to use less pitching. |

Just so I am interpreting this correct on the pitching rules changes:
(looking at the 13U-14U rules)
* 3 innings max to be able to pitch the next day.
* 7 innings max in one day
* 8 innings max in a three day period
So looking at these, teams better have a whole lot more pitching than they have in the past.
You can pitch:
Friday 3 innings, Sat 3 innings, then 2 on Sunday
Friday 3 innings, Sat 5 innings, then 0 on Sunday
Friday 0 innings, Sat 3 innings, then 5 on Sunday
Friday 0 innings, Sat 1 inning, then 7 on Sunday
Friday 7 innings, Sat 0 innings, then 1 on Sunday
Friday 1 inning, Sat 0 innings, then 7 on Sunday
Friday 2 innings, Sat 0 innings, then 6 on Sunday
Friday 6 innings, Sat 0 innings, then 2 on Sunday
Friday 5 innings, Sat 0 innings, then 3 on Sunday
Friday 4 innings, Sat 0 innings, then 4 on Sunday
With this, there are only 4 out of 10 options that allow you any innings on Sat.
I am not complaining about the changes, but will say I hope teams have the depth to play within these rules. I guess we will see a lot more 2-2-2 innings rotations being employed. |

I want to thank everyone that attended the Coach's Conference's Sat/Sun. Matt and myself thought they went very well and was very productive for everyone. This is something we will do every year all around the state as our program continues to grow. If you wasn't able to attend this past weekend we have one more this coming saturday 9-12 in Loganville Ga. It will be the last one before the start of the season and should be a lot of fun. More FREE TOURNAMENTS AND DOOR PRIZES. Sorry but know minutes were taken at the meetings. |

I attended the Cumming meeting and it was also very informative, and even Mr. know-it-all (BMoser) learned from it.
I wish Bubba had been added last year. It was clear that Matt had too much on his plate to do what we expected of him.
Someone should post a minutes to the meeting/s on this forum. After all, it was a big NFL day for football fans, and hoops are still in play.

yes it did. You can change the first name through the website, but if you've entered the last name or the birthdate incorrectly, you have to go through USSSA. It was also mentioned that after your roster has been frozen not to delete the name and add it again correctly. It will count towards one of your three allowable additions. I'd like to thank USSSA for holding the meeting. It was informative and fun. For me it made the start of the season that much closer! |
