At 10 it seemed easy only one week for the best 10u teams to play against the best. At 12 what will happen. Will the best try and compete on the same week or do weaker teams try and pick a week they will be successful?

It certainly is the luck of the draw...we went up there the first week in 2008. We finished 6-4 and 3 out of our 4 losses came to teams that finished in final 16.

Kids had a great time...it's amazing when you spend a week in a 20' x 20' room with 11 twelve year olds, what you will learn about their personalities when they are away from mom and dad!!!

I have been to Cooperstown twice in the last three years. I agree once the southern schools are back in session (August) the competition falls off with primarilarly northern teams. It has been my experience over the last three years if you look at the overall competition in June & July the week that wraps July 4th does not have the same level teams.

Last year we went week 1. I think Lou Presutti said there were 37 FL teams and twenty something GA teams.

How well you do is really the luck of the draw, unless of course you're one of those teams that will bring players from 5 different states and a 20 player roster and fly someone in from CA to pitch the final like Tamiami does every year.

Most important is to make it a good experience for the boys. It is a experience they will remember for a lifetime win or lose.

"Dance with the date that brought you" I'd rather go down fighting with the boys I have than win with ringers

beanball,
I would disagree the week of July 4th being a cake-walk. The only weeks that consistently get weaker are the weeks in August after the SE, TX, and most of the CA teams have gone to school or started football. Thiose are typically full of Northern teams and are not as strong.

My advice, which is the similar as the other posts above, is that you pick dates that work for the team. We went the week ending with July 4th so the families could watch fireworks in NY before heading home. We ended the season with that tournament, so therefore that week served two purposes for us.

Regardless which week you choose, that will be a great experience for the boys.

Unless they have changed from when i took my 12u team 4 years ago. You can ask for a certain week but that doesn't mean you will get that week. Sometimes they tell you when you can come. Again, that was 4 years ago.

Pick the week you want to finish your season. We went from June 28-July 4 and it was perfect.

From my limited experience that is 3 trips and 3 championship games (won the 10's twice and runner up in the 12's) the earlier weeks are generally filled with the better teams. The 10U experience is much tougher overall as most of the great 10 year old teams only have the one week to attend where the 12 year olds pick from the other 11 weeks. I agree that the 12's generally have around 25 good, 25 bad, and 50 average teams from week to week. But the 10's also have some rec teams that just come for the experience. I would recommend that all of you coaches and parents try to get your kids to Cooperstown NY. One of my most favorite places in the United States.

If you go the first week the showers are clean. After that you'll need muck boots :)

Honestly, week 1 is tough competition. If you go July 4th week it's a cake walk. Not sure how it’s doled out though. I think it’s a crap shoot unless you're grandfathered in.

From what i know its a free for all. Know one knows who is going when. With 100 teams there are always 25 good 25 bad 50 average. it all averages out. I think it all depends on when your parents can go.
