The 5150 -5 is in fact "junk", when you compare it to the Rawlings Gold Plasma (which unfortunately was discontinued by Rawlings when their contract w/ LiquidMetal was not renewed - BAD MOVE, IMHO)... Otherwise, it's OK, when comparing it to other -5 offerings...
If you can find them, as they've been discontinued also, The Easton Titan -5 was a very decent all Scandium-ALLOY bat for under $150...

That is my assessment as well. It looks like Rawlings tried to address the denting issue but reduced the performance. I have not seen anyone hit well with it (compared to other bats they use).
The hard part with -5's by the manufacturers is that no sanctioning body requires it, therefore the demand is not stable. They have basically replaced the demand they saw for the -7 or -8's with the -5's. The -10's have taken over the -8.5 & -9. -3's are easier to forecast because from HS up they are required.
-5's are "no man's land" of bats. |

I am speaking from experience. My son has a -5. We have done comparisons with the -5 Plasma Gold. The performance is lacking. Much better pop out of the Plasma Gold. I would say about 30-40 feet. That is substantial. The ball just doesnt pop off the bat like the Plasma. As for durability, the paint job on the 5150 completely flaked off. But it hasnt dented which is a common complaint of the Plasma. |

Voodoo don't have a drop -5, Easton stealth makes a good drop -5. My son used the stealth and loved it, but its top heavy not as balance as the voodoo. |

crackedbats: why do you say the 5150 alloy is junk? Is this opinion based on your experience or do you have some other information you can share?
I'd also like to know if durability or performance is your main concern.

Your right.... why in the heck would they not have one. I still think I remember a 2008 model for sale on ebay at one time. I've tried the vexxum this past Spring and didn't really care for it.

I plan on moving my son up to a -5 in the Spring. I am going with a Easton Stealth and Demarini Voodoo. |

5150 Alloy is junk. Some say the 5150 composite is ok. But there also is a rumor floating out there that says composite will be outlawed in future. |
