Hi guys I am trying to get some insight on what is normal for practice /workouts for the boys in the fall. I have quite a few of my kids playing fall sports which I support but wanted to know how a lot of you coaches plan out fall workouts for your teams. Is it one day during the week and then sunday (because most boys playing football ) , or is it just sunday in September and then some sunday shooutouts in October.

Just looking for some input.

Thanks in advance guys.

Oh goodness 8U a couple of 1.5 hr practices a week should be MORE than enough.

At 9u and 10u, we were fortunate to be able to find a weeknight where everyone could practice even though all but one or two were playing other sports. For 11u (this year), we've an indoor and an outdoor practice during the weeknights. Everyone is able to attend at least one of the sessions (though some have to be a little late here and there).

Some don't play other fall sports. This allows those kids to get some extra activity (away from electronic devices). Others get the flexibility to play other sports, which is nice as well.

The best way I have seen this work is to have normal practice 2-3 times a week with the non-fall sport kids and one late evening batting practice per week that the fall sport kids could attend. When you get to a game and don't know where the fall-sport kids should really play, ask them. You may have some kids that are delusional short stops and really belong in Deep Right, but at least you will learn that pretty quick. Fall may not be anything like your Spring team but it is what it is.

Might want to ask the parents now who is okay with playing weekend tourneys and who is wanting Sunday only tourneys in the Fall. If you can't make the tourneys work with the Fall Sport kids you can always take the money for Fall and invest in a Winter Training program at an indoor facility that does speed and agility.

From 10-13U, we went Tues/Thursday practice with 4-5 tourneys. The kids playing football (or another fall sport) were not required to attend practice, just the games. This worked well, but we didn't have very many football kids. At 14U, half of our guys are playing MS football, so we are jumping in with an academy program and they have practice with scrimmage games on Sunday afternoons to accomodate the football players.

What age group are you referring to?
