Posted - 08/17/2009 : 12:52:37 Anyone catch the Aflac All American High School game last night (Sun) at Petco Park in San Diego ? Here were a couple of my observations...
1. Finally got to see Bryce Harper play, even if it was on TV. Did you see him throw out the kid from Marietta HS in the first inning trying to steal 2nd ? What a throw nailing a great base runner, and the SS made a great tag too. Great play all around.
2. The top states with participants were : East: GA w/ 8 players, FL w/ 5, IN w/ 2, others w/ 1 player. West: CA w/ 9 players, TX w/ 5, NV w/ 2. others w/ 1 player.
I'm not sure how they are picked but is anyone surprised with the number of players representing CA, GA, TX, or FL ? |

Posted - 08/17/2009 : 16:29:53 Good game, by the way Harper looked average striking out at the plate too as well as awesome throwing out the runner. Last year the same game was at Dodger Stadium. GA is always loaded with great players. |

Posted - 08/17/2009 : 15:00:04 I'm not surprised at all. CA, GA, TX, and FL are the 4 baseball powerhouses. Two major factors come in to play with these 4 areas; population and temperature. All areas have a large population that helps field the best talent and the temperature allows more baseball to be played throughout the year. CA, GA, TX, and FL topped the 2008 Aflac All American Game player selections as well and with the amount of competitive summer ball being played I don't expect the BIG 4 to change any time soon. |
