What do you guys think of advertisements as independent teams, but in reality they are a rec/park associated team?

Just opinions.

Bunten, George Pierce, EE Robinson (technically Sugar Hill, but run by Lanier), Peachtree Ridge, and Shorty Howell have all rented their fields out to other groups at one level or another (I will say some of those it's been a while, but some more recently).

For the most part, the county grants rights to the local 'association'...so it is up to them to rent them out (if not using), and I've known many and if they can make an extra buck - they will, lol. Normally though, field space is at a premium so renting it out would be at some relatively extreme times.

Obviously someone doing so because they're worried about losing players is short sighted (if they're product is bad, they'll lose them anyway), and I'm willing to bet not the norm (normally it's that they have 4 teams and 1 appropriate field and it's booked).

You would think. There is so much red tape it is not worth it. You have to pay the county for a permit and pay the park for time. Sounds easy, but in reality it is not. Politics have infiltrated everything now. Less political teams play better.

There really isn't that much red tape. You need proof of insurance, sure. Again though, non 'park teams' do use Gwinnett Parks - but again, most are just fairly booked. You don't need a county permit, and do expect to get it for free? lol

Nothing sour about the politics. There is no way I would have major level players in any rec association. You may be just fine with that.

Right, there are good teams in gwinnett. Good is not great. Look at the fields that GS uses, those fields collected a pretty penny from the tournament, and less red tape involved in renting the fields. Not as much as GS. It is a multi-million dollar business.

your hearing parents stories..i would love to hear the coaches side LOL

Also non park teams such as the elite, giants, and others use parks and many park teams change their name to academy names to help with recruiting..they pay to use their name which is just stupid no one owns a team name

Google "Catfishing". I train at a church field in Lawrenceville, not a park field. No parks in the county are willing to rent us a field.

I can't elaborate on coaches stories. I do not know how others run their programs.

Didn't I say Gwinnett? None of the teams you listed are in Gwinnett. Those teams do not have issues renting park fields, unlike in Gwinnett.

The excuse I got from a executive board member of an association was that they did not want private teams to "steal" higher developed players from the park if they saw the private team practicing on their fields.

I guess you would have to define "rec/park associated teams". I know there are a lot of rec parks that have available fields they rent out, they may rent them out for a discount if the parks name is on the Jersey, but it doesn't mean the Travel Ball team is really associated with the rec/park.

I'm not sure why any of that is important though, I interview the COACH, not the board of the park he plays out of.

May be different in your county, but in Gwinnett, if the park name is on the jersey, they are associated with that park. Parks here will not rent their fields to private teams. Even though they say they will, it has never happened here. Most parks have a high school name association for the area.

It is important though. When something goes wrong, I've seen coaches blame the board when no one knew there was a board or even part of an association. Everyone thought they were a private team.

I would think that a "Major team looking" would weed out A and AA players. I guess there should be a weed out of teams too. Isn't that a form of abuse these days? No team contract? No schedule?

Well, coach may have THE BEST intentions in the world... And his son, or core of 2-3 may be legit Major players.... So, he assumes/wants/will strive to be, "Major", yet he doesn't get the personnel to round out a solid Major team... Or the instruction isn't there to raise the abilities... Or you do have the talent, but the coach (re: dad), wants to ensure his son is 'spotlighted' in certain positions, and/or other promises are made to families to get players on the team, so coach HAS to honor that promise of a kid playing where he has no business playing... The next thing you know, your "Major" team is only beating AA teams at best...

Also, plenty of coach's have 'contracts' and will put stuff in print (even advertising tryouts, teams, coaching philosophy, etc) on this forum, that just does not come to pass. And in some cases, the more a coach puts on here, the higher expectation/standard people will have, and when EACH AND EVERY bullet point is NOT met, then, well... Here we go with that whole 'coach speak' again....

It could be "Coach Speak" where they have ALL the right answers, and are great salesmen, but in reality, their 'utopia' their trying to sell you, just isn't possible....

It could be "Major team looking" only to not be able to compete on any higher level than AA...

Plenty of it in travel...

If they are not willing to put it in writing something is seriously wrong.

Thank goodness I'm not a salesman nor PC. Maybe I'm too old school.
