Posted - 07/07/2009 : 16:34:36 what has been your experience regarding usssa's roster rule enforcement? We're off to the 10u AA World Series this Saturday, and we're curious to hear what others have encountered in the past.
Also, have you come across World Series contestants that have not qualified? If so, what happened next?
What is usssa's history in enforcing its own rules at World Series events?

Posted - 07/09/2009 : 11:30:42 We're going to the World Series in Kissimmee, not Tennessee where 3 of the other GA teams are going. The Southside A's are the only other GA team in ours. If all the teams played it straight up, I'd like our chances, but that's a huge "if", and we're not so naive to think that will happen.

Posted - 07/09/2009 : 09:34:12 That ocurred to me after seeing your second post on the topic. That and mine must have been in the queue together.
I'm not sure there's a whole lot you can do. If the other guys got integrity issues there's just not a lot you can do. He's very likely to just use the names on his roster even though they might not be the actual kids on the field.
However, I just assumed that the website would restrict entering the name of a player from a major team to a AA team. If the infraction is that obvious you can squawk when you get there. |

Posted - 07/09/2009 : 05:41:50 which is actually a sneaky way of accumulating points for the following spring. Put a fall team together of players that want to play but play on other spring teams, and rack up the points. This is what happens in CA and FL a lot. |

Posted - 07/08/2009 : 23:19:57 JAY Not the case. We are squeaky clean. There are too many potential rule infractions to list here, but the AA teams we're going to play have a plethora of players who have played 11u AAA, 11U Majors, 10U Majors, all of which are against the usssa rules. We're just trying to keep the field somewhat level, but expect some level of cheating to be present.
Got any ideas for us? We're already prepared to play whomever they parade in front of us, even if they are shaving, and are already exploring other tourney promotional orgs (see my other postings) for next year. Just trying our best to give out boys a fair shake, or at least as close as American society will offer. |

Posted - 07/08/2009 : 16:58:21 USSSA Fall rosters are NOT frozen in any way. You can have 12 different kids on the same team every game.
The points will follow the Head Coach into next year. |

Posted - 07/08/2009 : 12:22:16 Thanks for the replies. We will print off all 15 teams current rosters just prior to our departure, then match them up to the line up sheets.
usssa is telling us that Fall doesn't count. You can have a 10U AA Spring team with 7 10U Major players so long as they played Majors the prior Fall. USSSA sees Fall as a separate season I'm told?
2 very weak teams who did not qualify were added. One is from Puerto Rico and is 0-6, another is from FLA and is 1-5. I wont be surprised if the Puerto Rican team magically got a lot better than their 0-6 record would indicate.
There are several 11U AAA and even one 11U Major players in our 10U AA World Series. We're being told they played for these 11U teams last Fall so it doesn't count??? |

Posted - 07/08/2009 : 11:20:54 The only thing you can do is if you know the teams that are playing in the tournament (at least the ones you are scheduled to play or the ones you have the most question about) go to the USSSA website for their team, click on Roster History, select the "Current Roster" section at the top of the players list, and print that off and take it with you. If you play them and they give you a lineup with a name not on that roster, you can question it then, or wait until after the game and protest. (I would suggest not printing them out until the day before the tournament to ensure all late entries are updated.)
USSSA does not make it easy to keep up with this so you have to do the homework for yourself. |

Posted - 07/08/2009 : 11:05:49 In the GA State USSSA tournament, there was an 11U team with an illegal roster. When mentioned to the tournament director, he indicated he knew but unless someone protested they were allowed to play. However, it didn't matter as they couldn't win a bracket game. |

Posted - 07/08/2009 : 09:31:51 I have seen teams disqualified for having an illegal player. Right after they won the championship game.
The other coach called in the director and pointed out the roster and the team was disqualified on the spot.
It was ugly! |

Posted - 07/08/2009 : 00:04:54 I have found over the years they are very good at standing by their rules.. Remember...there are always exceptions to the rules...and they are legitimate... a team was late in releasing the player from another team... a coach wouldn't release the player out of spite...etc. USSSA also reserves the right to invite teams that have not qualified to fill open spots by teams that drop out or don't accept their birth.... it does happen. So they try to invite a quality team that could have been there. If you know of a blatant violation, and can prove it, they will stand by the rule. |
