I was saying there is a rule on how long a glove can be. So if you included the strings when you measure that glove it would be too big for regulation. So maybe they would cut them. Just a way to throw out the long strings maybe, just a thought.

We did the same back in College. A teammate did it after tightening his glove throughout the season. Used the strings to slap the arms of teammates standing in line during drills or on the bench. Before you knew it we all had our gloves the same. Looking back I would say we thought we were cool. :) It was trend I guess. Coach never said anything.

Agree if you cant wear white sleeves when pitching, this should not be allowed either......whether or not it distracts a good hitter makes no difference. If there is a rule about distractions by a pitcher, these should be included........if not, whos to say they cant be 12" long? Do we set it for 24" How about 3'?

Maybe they measure the glove length with the strings and use that as an illegal glove size?
Height (measured from the bottom edge or heel straight up across the center of the palm to a line even with the highest point of the glove/mitt): 14 inches
b. Width of palm (measured from the bottom edge of the webbing farthest from the thumb in a horizontal line to the outside of the little finger edge of the glove/mitt): 8 inches

Saw this thread shortly after is posted...........still not sure. I dont think I like it though. I do see a few gloves on TV that look like they were just re-laced but never trimmed.

There was a kid pitching, and the strings were 4-6" long all over the glove, and he had beads tied on the strings. He glove would rattle like crazy. But, it's not against the rules, so more power to him.

Good hitters don't get distracted by white sleeves, strings, jewelry, batting gloves or sweatbands. I worry more about the pitcher hitting himself in the eye.

That's why I brought it up. Was watching a college game on tv and the pitchers glove looked like it was trimmed in fringe! So many strings...

Many pitchers will have strings as long as they are able to get away with because they believe that it gives them an advantage by distracting the hitter. Your mileage may vary.

Oh sure, heaven help you if you wear a white long sleeve shirt but your glove is free to look like a hula dancer?!?!?!?! INCONCEIVABLE!

Haha. We were just talking about this at one of my son's games. 3rd baseman's mother asked me why her son had the long laces hanging off his glove. I told her it's because he thinks it's cool. I think that's about it. Players think it's cool, so they do it.

So funny you brought that up when we were just talking about it on Sunday.

Hearing some coaches make you cut them just like long hair and facial hair!! Not very professional looking and some colleges/MLB frown upon it.
