taterbug is being modest and I think Georgia should way more than proud of the way our kids are playing this great game called baseball. There is a lot that goes into any successful program and Georgia has worked its way into the national spotlight with many age groups and it is a result of the formula being used to build these teams. The formula is simple but must always start with the kids that are willing to work as hard as needed to be successful. You must have the support of the parents and the local community as the game is costing more and more to play. Some do it with sponsors and other use community support but the support has got to be there for it to work. You must have the Coach that understands the game and its ups and downs and a Coach that is willing to make the hard choices to build this team. Some Coaches build on pitching and defense while others choose the hitters but the most successful of Coaches will build with athletes that are willing to be taught the fundamentals and put in the hours of hard work necessary to play this game the right way. Regardless of how we are doing it, the proof is on the table that Georgia must be doing the right things.

Papa tried to say at the first of year that Georgia was the best baseball state in the Nation and took quite a bit of flack from the folks from Florida but I say again that Georgia ranks at the top of my list as the Best in the Nation. Good job Legends.

It was a very good week for the Legends at CDP....they played some very good teams in pool...specifically the St. Joes Pony(they had wins totals of 115 and 15 oveer the last two seasons)...the Legends blew them out of the stadium...both on the field and the fans....then they played the Santa Clarita Red hawks who were natioanlly ranked for good reason....they pitched a kid that was 6'4" 205lbs and threw hard and harder...that pool game ended at 230am as the fog set in you could not even see the OF...SC beat the Legends 3-2 in pool...Legends got a fairly easy game in the 1st bracket game...but faced the Red hawks game #2 of bracket...the Legends big boy man handled the Red hawks lining up a very interesting match up with the Canadian Beaver Tails...yes I said Beaver Tails....and they had some very fine looking players but they were no match for the Legends on this day....then came the Carolina Cubs...a very scary team but the Legends punched early and often beating them squarely....then came former NY Yankees player's Houston Sox...they were clearly a very good team and for those of you who watched the game you saw a very well coached team and Charlie's boy was an off the hook good pitcher...the Legends tried to rally late with the bases loaded in the top of the 6th and Big Papi's long flyball just didn't have the extra 2 feet it needed for a game tying dinger....Legends lose 5 to 1....it was a great run and a lot of fun....Georgia again should be proud....

Sox win it, 5-1. Congrats to the Legends for a great run. Georgia baseball continues to represent well at Cooperstown.

Has to be sweet redemption for Charlie Hayes after last year's debacle with the Texas Americans in the USSSA Nationals. As I recall, they were huge favorites to win it all but got knocked out early. Lots of finger-pointing coupled with angry parents wrecked that team.

Well, it's the GA Legends and the Houston Sox. Should make for a good Championship game.

No FLA teams in the final 4 this week. IL, TX, GA, SC representing. Legends have a good shot at bringing it home if their pitching can hold out.

The Tallahassee Titans finished 0-6, were the 100 seed and gave up 13.33 runs per game. That's 80 runs given up in 6 games for all you math majors. Then they go on a 4-0 run in bracket play, drumming the 17 seed 16-4 and barely going out 4-3 to the 16 seed in their 5th game of the day.

Sandbagging or magical run?

There you go. At C'town it's wise to play everybody like they're the Big Red Machine. Pool play can be a general indicator of strength, but all it takes is a stud or two sitting on the bench - or in the hotel lobby - who shows up in bracket play to alter the playing equations. At the hotel we were staying at, I saw a few new faces checking in on the last day or so. Couldn't tell if they were there for the end of Week #4 or were early arrivals for Week #5.

I wouldn't put it past some teams to sandbag for the benefit of a few glorious wins in the brackets...

BTW, that Houston Sox team is Charlie Hayes's rebuilt team from the remnants of the Texas Americans and Banditos. Judging solely on the scores, they look like the favorites of the final four.

You hear a lot about teams "flying" kids in for bracket play. Usually stud pitchers.

I just heard that the legends extracted their revenge by a score of 5-2 and that the #2 and #3 seeds were upset. Sic em Legends as Georgia has develped a reputation that will be forever in the minds of Cooperstown's fans.

The Beaver Tails did put a "lickin" on the Dairy Queen team this morning, though, so the Legends should not take them lightly. They could get smacked around.

Legends and EC Trojans are still in on Thur AM. Good luck to both teams. The legends have a rematch with Santa Clarita. Time for some revenge.

I am a little disappointed in the Hopewell Hurricanes getting put out by the team from the Great White North. I guess we have to give a big "Slap of the Beaver Tail." to those crazy Canadians. (Just kidding about the disappointment. Hopewell did a great job of getting there.)

It looks like the Legends played this nationally ranked team right down to the wire losing 3-2. Sounds like this was a great game and it I am looking at the brackets right there might be a rematch in the near future if the brackets shake out right. Legends will be looking for revenge and we all know you play things a little different in bracket than you do pool play.

Good Lucks Legends.

The GA LEGENDS are ranked 2nd. They have ended every game via Mercy Rules and have outscored their opponents 79 - 3! Play the Nationally Ranked Santa Clarita Redhawks from CA at 7PM tonight.
