Posted - 06/24/2009 : 23:08:08 Its a lot easier to qualify for a World Series than you explain here. In fact, it seems to me if you have a pulse, you qualify for the World Series! In 10U AA alone, there are 60 qualified teams. Many never won any tourneys. Even States are easy to qualify for. Look at the 10u AA Next Level Bulldogs, Fayette Braves, and Fayette Dirt Bags. They finished 3rd,5th, 5th, and in their sub states and qualified.
I'd be very careful about having your son "help another team out" in any usssa events, especially after Feb 1st.

The team's roster does not become frozen until they qualify for a State Championship or a World Series. Meaning, even after April 1st, a team must still win a WS or State Qualifier for their Roster to be frozen. It is not frozen just because you are past the April 1st date.
Here is the comments on Rule 3.11:
Rule 3.11 Comment: A player may legally appear on multiple Official Online Rosters in the same age division regardless of classification(s) until such time one of the rosters the player appears on in the age division becomes frozen. From the freeze date forward, the player may only appear on the frozen team’s Official Online Roster in that age division unless released pursuant to these rules. After the roster is frozen, the coach may release as many players as he wants, but can only add up to 3 players.

Posted - 06/24/2009 : 22:52:59 Its quite complex. You 'll have to read the rules under 3.0 a few times. I'm still trying to get it all. Based upon what I understand, if you "help out" another team in a qualifier or sub state, and they win it or finish 2nd, your son will become glued to the that team, unless it happens in Fall. It seems Fall doesn't count come the following Spring. I have not read that, but have heard it interpreted that way.

So, If a player were to be asked to play with another team for one state or national level tournament that his team was not playing in, he could be disqualified from playing with his team if they make state or higher?
My son was asked this year to "help out" another team. We passed. But for the future, I would want to be sure I was not hurting our team by playing aweekend with someone else.

Posted - 06/24/2009 : 16:30:23 There are 22 teams in it. According to usssa power ratings, the top 10 teams from highest rating to lowest are:
GA Scorchers, GA Redbirds, Fayette Dirtbags, Mill Creek Gold, Southside A's, GA Force, Roswell Jr Hornets, Dobbs Creek Warriors, GA Titans, Peachtree Ridge Lions.
Quite of few of the lower 12 rated teams are capable of winning it too. This ones wide open.

I guess all the frozen this, qualified that doesn't amount to crud with USSSA when the rubber actually meets the road or we are all grossly misunderstanding the whole frozen roster thing.
I'd be interested in which teams had different rosters. I guess I could look it up. Based on the results I saw, things shook out pretty much the way you would expect. Combat's been going deep in tournaments all year and the Vipers just win, win, win. I guess the biggest surprise to me was how dominant the Vipers were (72-3).
Outside of that there weren't many surprises and no real shockers.
I look forward to hearing how this 10AA tournament shakes out.
A couple of years ago I was at an All Star tournament and one Oregon Park team turned in another and the other had to forfeit. Gotta love that. That next board meeting must have been fun.

Posted - 06/23/2009 : 07:41:17 USSSA Rule 3.0: In addition to reviewing the eligibility status of any players that teams might have added during 2009, Coaches should also pay special attention to any of their current roster players who may have played for another team in 2009. Even if to fill in for 1 tourney...it counts.
If Coaches are unclear on any of the 3.0 rules, and you have added any players to your roster, or if any of your players also played w/ another team in 2009, call USSSA to discuss. Better safe than sorry.

I'm staying quiet on this one.
I urge ALL the teams to read, then re-read, USSSA rule section 3.0 focusing on individual player eligibility. Then look at any players you added to your rosters in 2009 for potential rule infractions.
Knowing these rules becomes critical at this stage in the game.
