Posted - 06/24/2009 : 22:12:58 The walls are solid plywood all the way around. You cannot watch from outside the field (unless you're one one of the fields near a hill). On each side (1st & 3rd) there are entrances to the dugouts and to the "fan" areas. The fan areas are just very similar to the camera wells you'll see photographers in at major league stadiums. The dugouts are completely enclosed with wood and screen while the fan areas have screen at the end toward home plate (to protect fans from foul line drives) but are open toward the outfield fence. They have a concrete floor and typically have some stacking plastic lawn chairs in them. They have plywood walls that are about 3 feet tall. What's cool about the atmosphere is that you are completely immersed in your game. No distraction of seeing action on any other field or pedestrian tracking walking by. It also keeps alot of the surrounding sound out, so even though there are fields everywhere, it feels like your game is the only one going on. Click on the link below, then scroll down the page under the Matt Garza & David Price bio's and you'll see a shot of the first base side where the dugout has flag bunting on it, then there is a space, then the fan area starts to the left. Nice wide gap between the dugout and fans. Fan areas are also very far from home plate. No parent umpires on the balls & strikes & a dream for us coaches that have those parents who love to get in their kids ear before and after each at bat...

Posted - 06/24/2009 : 21:59:54 There is a concrete area down each foul line that they put green plastic chairs you can sit in and you are behind a three foot wall. It is a great view, but you have to be ready to grab or duck a foul ball. To me it is a lot easier on the eyes not having to look through chain-link fences.
Early morning and during the afternoon those large walls do cast shadows to help get you out of the sun. There is a roof about eight by eight at the two entrances of each field. You cannot see from one field to another and you cannot see a game from the outside... But in the hot afternoon the walls can make it bearable. |

Stinger, on the webcast, it looks like the fields have tall solid walls all the way around the fields, how can you watch the games?

GA teams are a combined 23 - 7 after pool play.
- Storm (2-4) plays in first round today which you can watch on the game cam if you're not here. - 6-4-3 (6-0) & Bandits (5-1) get byes until the 4th round. - Scorpions (5-1) & Tigers (5-1) get byes until the 3rd round.
Nice job.
Bleachers are down the lines. Nothing behind the plate either. Parents /Fans can't 1) Come up or in to the dugout, or 2) Sit right behind the plate and coach the pitcher, batter, catcher or umpire.

Posted - 06/24/2009 : 17:41:01 All fields have an 8' green plywood wall completely arround the fields. there are bull per style viewing areas down the right & left field lines. The fans are kept far from players and umpires. Being a spectator is not good -- unless you're interested in the first or third base coaches weggie. |

Posted - 06/22/2009 : 22:11:09 Scorpions come back and win again 9-7 on a great bunt in bottom of 5th and some very good base-running. They are on a role.
- Scorpions, Tigers, Bandits are all 3-1 - 6-4-3 is 4-0. - N GA Storm is 1-3 with some very tight losses. Nice team!
That puts GA teams at 14-4 so far in pool play. Not too shabby, but these CA, FL and TX teams are very tough. |

Posted - 06/22/2009 : 14:47:21 Pool play is about having fun and not looking back. If you can't finish top 14, go for top 32. Bracket play is what matters.
Don't let the kids get all worn out in the skills competition on Wednesday before their games. They are not mandatory... |

Posted - 06/22/2009 : 13:51:50 Papa, Good luck to your team going forward. My advice, from being in this tournament before, is they need to win the rest of the pool games and give up little to no runs. They need to be the first 1-loss team in the seeding. It can mean a difference of playing 1 or 2 extra games to get to the finals. This tournament is like nothing they have played before because it is back-to-back games once they start playing. No other tournament works that way or has this many teams.
I fully believe these boys can regroup and work their way back. Good luck to all the GA teams in Cooperstown this week. |

Posted - 06/22/2009 : 08:43:13 Rocky: You are quite correct. Bandits were run ruled by San Diego North Stars. Several factors figured into this one but the one that will rule is the 11 walks that we gave up in 4 innings. I have watched these pitchers for 2 years now and cannot remember an entire tournament that we walked 11 batters. We played as bad as we could play and they played about as good as they could play and this formula will get you beat everytime.
Good news is that we have been here before and know how to regroup. Remember Georgia guys that the pool play is just a battle that we fight to position ourselves for the winning of the war. There will 4 more of these battles before the real war begins. Also remember that our pitching is solid and that if we can begin to play some Bandit baseball that we are still right in the middle of this thing.
We started pool play out with the State AAU Champion out of Florida that has beaten Mizuno Glory this year and then turned around and played the California State Champion and this was all in one day. Another factor although this should have affected both teams and not just us was that the San Diego game ended at 1:30AM and I am sure the little guys were worn out.
Wish us luck as we are going to need every bit of luck that we can muster up.
