Now that the season is winding down, how would you rank the 10under. I think with all said and done this is what I have.

1. Bandits(Until beaten by a Georgia Team will remain number one)
2. Sandtown Red Sox
3. 643 DP
4. Homeplate Chillidogs Black
5. Holly Spring Express
6. Homeplate Red
7. Willis Park
8. Stixx
9. Grip
10.Kennesaw Express

I believe that Eastside is a Major team not a AAA team? Their last 3 major tourneys they have done real well. They beat Wills Park and had a close 2-3 game with Sandtown.

Eastside is a pretty good AAA team. They do well in their division. but don't do so well in the major tournaments

No one has mentioned the East Side Venom other than the fact that they beat (run rulled) Collins Hill for the Grand Slam N GA State Championship. The Venom beat the West Georgia Bandits and the Southern Dodgers in that tournament as well. That Venom team then went to Panama City Beach and took second at the Battle at the Beach Tournament, losing in the championship 6-3 to the Lynn Haven Longhorns who they beat in pool play. The Longhorns beat the Bay County Bombers 7-3 to get to the championship game against the Venom. The Venom run rulled 3 teams in that tournament including Oregon Park Storm. The Storm is another improved team and the W Ga Bandits are very strong as well as the Southern Dodgers. It was good to see the NYO team come out and do well at the Webb Bridge tournament in Alpharetta. Has anyone noticed that some of these tier two/three teams have gelled and continued to improve at the end of the season as some of the more reputable teams started out strong but have had trouble getting to the finish line?

This kid on our team (Sandy Plains) can go about 275. He hit one mammoth shot this season about 30 feet over a 245 sign at the Birmingham Church field. He is a great kid and we will miss him at our World Series in PCB because he's defending his status as the National Champion in the javelin.

Regarding the walking of a 10YO, this is something that I agree with Coach Brad on. Unless it's a game type situation walk (to load the bases in the bottom of the last inning), I don't believe walking a kid because he's going deep is what I want to teach kids at this age (although I know many will disagree). Our pitchers need to learn to pitch in big situations. Our hitters need to learn to hit. And these kids are there to have fun. It's not much fun getting sent to 1B every time you come to the plate.

On this note, Coach Brad is as good as his word. We had a semi-final game against his team and our big hitter was at the plate in the last inning with 1B open. While his parents might have wanted to walk him (which admittedly is the correct baseball move), he pitched to him straight up. That takes guts in competitive baseball.

Okay, add Collins Hill to the Tier 3 list. I haven't seen them but I'll take your word for it.

Regarding the big hitter, you have been talking about him since last winter, but I'm still not sure who this is.

Of the two big hitters I heard about the most, one played for Duluth and the other played for Sandy Plains. I saw both of these kids play but didn't see big shots from either, only some really hard hit ground balls. I did see a big kid from Oregon Park hit the ball about 250, but not the 300 foot shots you mentioned. Are any these kids the guy you're talking about?

I think he is talking about the one from Duluth. He was hitting a HR nearly every game near the end of the season and was intentionally walked a lot when runners were on base.

I agree there are several good level 3 teams that never got into the fray. Last year at 9U Mill Creek was playing a lot of big tourneys. This year after breaking up and going to three different teams they didn't play that many tournaments except for one of those spin off teams the 10U Grip of course. Mill Creek Red is a very impressive team that is maybe even stronger next year because they have a huge talent pool to pull from. They had an impressive win over the Midway Dirty Dawgs to win the Mill Creek Shootout. Collins Hill was 3-1 against them this year, but they had better look out next year. They both had some pretty impressive wins in the few tournaments they played in. Collins Hill even made it to the Championship game at the Grand Slam State in Lagrange this weekend to lose to East Side Venom. This tournament included some of the level 3 teams mentioned:
Sandy Plains Wildcats, Southern Dodgers,etc.

Guys, See you have doing a lot of talking and predicting since Papa has been in Cooperstown with the Chiefs. My 12U Chiefs got all the way to the title game with LaMorinda Cougars before losing 7-4 to the best 12 year pitcher Papa has seen in the past 2 years. Chiefs had a great week of baseball and was the talk of Cooperstown unleashing a home run barrage that many thought would end up breaking the record but fell short as the last day was played in a steady rain and the home runs slowed down. I am never satisfied with second place but I am so proud that we outlasted 102 other teams and just given the opportunity to participate in the championship game was one of the most electric moments of my life. The air is charged with excitement with Lee Greenwood singing and the fireworks flying. The atmosphere was that of real major league baseball and I can promise you that I will never forget this night.

Next up is the 10U Bandits and as you all already know we have been given the hardest field to plow but don't worry and just say a prayer that we are able to play our best as this is all that we ask.

Moser: The major difference that I have noted here at Cooperstown is that the 12 year olds that play 11 weeks only have a handful of really elite teams each week compared to the one week of 10 year olds that all of the elite teams from across the entire United States are here to prove their worth. Good luck to all and Papa says LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE.

I think stinger is correct with his last post.

Level 1 - Bandits, Sandtown

Level 2 - 643, Stixx (and maybe Grip w/ their pitchers)

Level 3 - about 12-15 other teams who could beat the Level 2 teams on a given day (let's say 1 in 4), and would all go about 50/50 against each other. I'm not sure why the teams listed 6-10 (NYO, Holly Springs, Kenn, HPCD Red & Black, Scorpians, Wills Park) are any better than Mill Creek-Red, Midway, ECB Bulldogs, ECB Tigers, OP Sharks, Sandy Plains Wildcats, Georgia Outlaws, Georgia Raptors, Southern Dodgers and maybe a few more I've forgotten about. By the end of the season, only the Level 1 & 2 teams were standing out and winning consistently against the other top level teams.

Stinger:
I agree. I wished some of these 3rd tier team would have gotten into the fray a little more, but some didn't, so we have to vote on what we have. I love how NYO went all-in after their parks all star stint ended. Just goes to show there's a whole other World outside our little fish bowl.

For instance, you never mentioned Collins Hill. Collins Hill beat MC Red to win the Gwinnett County Championship. Check out who Mill Creek Red beat, and you'll appreciate Collins Hill. They just chose not to get into the fray for whatever reason. They are a borderline AAA/Major team. They belong in the 3rd tier for sure. Problem is, not many folks saw them. Some parents are not up for all this at 10u.

I see a near total remix occurring for 2010 (except for the Bandits) It will be tough to rank teams prior to April 1st. Follow the best Coaches to the talent.

The most prolific 10U hitter in Georgia is not yet a household name, but that will change in 2010.

Players and Coaches names, moreso than team names, will become the talk of the town next season.

2009 is all but done, and we all know who the top dogs were, but next year will be less predictable. Even some AA teams might emerge.

Have you watched NYO play this season? I think they deserve a top 10 spot beating the Scorpians a couple of times, 6-4-3, tigers, and losing to Sandtown by only 1 run, although they lost to the scorpians and 6-4-3 too.
Titan1 Posted - 06/17/2009 : 21:22:35
I would love to play in a tournament with all of those teams and about 6 more.
TAZ980002 Posted - 06/17/2009 : 20:06:12
1-Bandits
2-Sandtown
3-Stixx
4-Grip
5-643 Cougars
6-Holly Springs
7-Kennesaw
8-HPCD Red
9-HPCD Black
10-Scorpians

With that said, I belive any one of these teams could beat any of the others on a given day. I would be a privilege to play on any of these teams.

5. GA Grip
6. NYO

Just for clarification, the Grip hasn't lost their 2 pitchers. They are being borrowed by the Bandits for the Cooperstown trip. We still have the Grand Slam W.S. and will be at full strength. For kicks, I put our record against the teams listed above in parenthesis beside their names.

Good luck to the rest of the 10u teams for the remainder of the season. We have enjoyed the level of competition the 10u age group has had to offer this year.

The Grand Slam World Series in Panama City beginning July 6th will be hosting 4 of the teams listed above (HPCDB, Stixx, Grip & K.E.) plus 14 other teams. It should go a long way to answering how these teams have shaped up.
