Posted - 06/17/2009 : 12:23:36 You are right, mommabee. The 11 13U old teams are much tougher than the 6 14U teams. And that pesky pitching from 60'6" is not near as tough as pitching from that 54' spot. Don't even mention having to cover a few more acres out in the outfield.
Unless I mis-interpreted the format, no team plays all 10 other teams in the tournament. The same number of pool games are played, and the only difference is to win it, either coming from the winners bracket or losers bracket, you have to play one more game. (Did not mean to let facts get in the way of a good story, though.) |

They certainly did not dominate the 10 year old division in USSSA State or any other tournament this year. There are several teams playing much better than any of the East Cobb 10 U Teams including but not limited to: Sandtown, 643, Holly Springs Express, Bandits Baseball, Kennesaw Express (although lately they have really fallen off), Both Chili Dogs teams, and some others.
The best of the East Cobb teams appear to be the Scorpions although they are looking for some consistenty. They seem to be able to advance in all of the tournaments they enter but can't seem to come up with the big win. Once they learn how they need to play in the big games this might be the East Cobb team of the future.
I don't how the 12U East Cobbs did in USSSA State but I can state for the record that no East Cobb team dominates this division and I can almost state that no one team will dominate this division this year as their are several great teams in this group and the one playing the best that day has been the one winning. The Shamrocks have taken over the front runner's spot for now but with this group of 12 U teams have a fight on their hands to keep this spot. Chili Dogs also can be a terror in the 12's and when they are on the Chiefs can beat anyone but with this group if any one of them is on they can win.
The East Cobb teams in 12 U absolutely are great teams and are in the mix each and every week but the only way to describe this 12 year old group is "TUFF" and so far a different team has stepped up each and every week.
The east cobb program at 10 u has 5 teams (The other programs mentioned all have one? ) just let that settle in for a minute......................,
The talent is very watered down across those 5 teams and so on ,,,,,This is not an excuse its just the way it is. If someone said ECB would dominate, I missed it?? We have 10 year olds who like to play baseball just like the rest of you. I would love to see an Elite team out of this age group next year . Who knows what might happen in the future, could be a Shock ! |

Posted - 06/16/2009 : 13:15:10 The word "Dominate" is to imply defeating with ease, which I would say you could ask any of these EC teams and they would say that did not happen. In this area, no one wins with "Ease" anymore. |

Posted - 06/16/2009 : 12:28:40 For 10u, this group has been inconsistent. Here's my take on this group:
Tigers (former Astros) - maybe the most talent but the team has not played to expectations, especially recently. Not sure if team is just tired, but something appears not quite right with this group right now.
Scorpions - have probably been the most productive of ECB 10U teams, but also been up-and-down. Good defensive and hitting team but starting pitching is not deep. In tournaments where they have gotten a good draw, they have down well due to being able to save their top pitching for later. Have met expectations in my opinion.
Bulldogs - have exceeded expectations, especially since picking up a strong LHP from the Stixx late in the season. This gave them a deep bracket pitcher on top of the one they already had. Interesting to see where this team is headed in 2010.
Longhorns - got a lot of attention early but have been least impressive of this bunch. It has been a merry-go-round with players on this team since the Fall. Not sure where this team will be next year.
Luck - perhaps the least talent but have competed well. Appears to play well as a team and gets a lot out of their players. Good season for this team in my opinion.
Overall there are several other teams in Cobb/Cherokee that are as good or better than any of these teams including: Kennesaw, Holly Springs, OP Sharks, and Sandy Plains.
643 is the best Cobb/Cherokee team and seems to have the allure at this age that typically is reserved for ECB teams. It will be interesting to see how this turns out at this age long term when 643 has multiple teams per age group (if Danny doesn't get spread too thin). It could be a passing of the torch from ECB to 643 from this age & down. |

Posted - 06/16/2009 : 09:42:50 I've been on this board for three seasons. Pretty much what people who are smarter than me have always said is that EC is no different than any other park at the younger ages and they start to separate at 13 at least, if not 14.
This year's USSSA results seem to bear that out. I think they'll do pretty well in the 13U tournament. No idea about the 11U's. |
