Leverage - is a dynamic word within baseball. As a hitter you need leverage to drive the ball; as a pitcher you need leverage to take advantage of levers & angles when throwing the ball to the plate w/velocity... but there is also another form of leverage that we must consider...

The leverage that we can't overlook is "situational leverage." Our bodies and mind must be conditioned to handle high leverage spots within the game of baseball (i.e. 3-2 count w/bases loaded and you are on the mound; 0-2 count, one out, man on 3rd, and you are at the plate).

Pressurize your training so that "high leverage" situations won't cause you to physically tense up and force your "baseball actions" to betray you. Learn to repeat your baseball actions within a high stress environment. It's similar to a basketball player performing his ball-handling drills at a higher speed than he's used to. He will make errors during the early stages, but eventually his body will adjust to the new speed and it will become the "new normal."

Let's turn these high leverage spots into a basic walk in the park!
