My 10 year old just cracked his 28" Catalyst so therefore back in the market for a new bat. I most likely will go to a 29 or 30" bat for him but would like to get something that will optimize his swing speed. He isn't a big kid and I feel he needs more of a balanced bat versus an end loaded. Any suggestions or acvice is appreciated for those that have some good experiences with their bats.
It is closeout time right now and most likely will get a 2009 model. I have been considering 3 bats in particular - L.S. Triton, Worth Prodigy Lithium, or Easton Synergy IMX

My suggestion is to ask your local sporting goods store and see if they have demos you can sign out. Jonquil sporting goods in Smyrna has some and we were able to try a few new bats that no one on my son's team had. We went with the -8 31" Triton and he loves it, but he is a BIG 10 year old. |

For the money I agree with fourseam. The Worth Lithium is a heck of a bat, lots of pop but they don't last long.The Triton replaced the Catalyst and I know nothing about the Synergy. If you look hard you should be able to find a good deal on a 08 bat. I was at Academy sports the other day and they had a Easton SV12 for $149.00. |

I would go with the EXO or the Demarini CF3 or a new Dynasty all should be around 250 bucks...Check around on the net for these they have some good prices... |

Know that the Worth Lithium performs like a tin can as they get older. It is great for 9 and under, but as the boys get stronger, then mash easy. If he cracked his Catalyst, there is a pretty good chance he would do the same thing for the Lithium.
I agree with op-o. The Voodoo is very balanced and has a feel of being lighter than it actually is. |

CF3 probably too heavy, I would go with worth lithium if he is on the small side. |

If he is not a big kid try not go too high in bat length. That will slow down bat speed more than a shorter heavier bat. But every kid is different. i.e. I have a shorter 10U player around 85 lbs. and he is swinging a CF3 29", -8, 21oz and ripping it against faster pitching. He does not swing a 30" -10 anywhere close to as good, even though it is an oz. lighter.
I would suggest that you see if anybody on your team has the bat you are considering and ask if he could take a few swings in the cage. Have someone throw 5 normal fast balls, 5 change ups, and 5 "you might see one pitcher throw this hard" speed. Tell your son nothing but line drives to the back of the cage. Watch his load and hands as he swing threw the zone. See if he makes adjustments. Ideally you would want to do this two different days after he has warmed up.

I would go with a 30" bat. I woulld also consider the demarini bats voodoo or CF3 (2009) or CF4 (2010). The CF line is more end loaded so that may not be right for you. |
