Now that the Super NIT's are in full swing, and some have completed, I thought it important to point out a few USSSA rules.
(I would hate for someone to be disqualified for using an illegal player accidentally.)
Rule 3.09.C
When a team qualifies (is awarded a berth) at a Super NIT event (whether the team accepts the berth or not), the team’s Official Online Roster shall become frozen immediately at the Super NIT event regardless of the date of the Super NIT event or the date the roster is physically frozen in the USSSA online system.
Rule 3.10
All players on the team’s Official Online Roster (unless released pursuant to these rules) shall be bound to the team up to and
including the teams respective State Championship and / or World Series.
Rule 3.12.A
Team managers shall be allowed to add a maximum of three (3) players to their frozen Official Online Roster. Players may be added as late as seventy-two (72) hours prior to the start of the World Series. Additional players can only be added to rosters that have openings to allow for such additions (see Rule 3.02).
Rule 3.02.A
Team rosters for age divisions 4U – 14U shall be composed of not more than twenty (20) players.
Rule 3.12.B
All players added to a frozen Official Online Rosters must meet the following requirements:
3.12.B.1
Player(s) cannot be on another frozen Official Online Roster in the same age division regardless of classification.
3.12.B.2
Player(s) must not have played on a team with a frozen Official Online Roster of higher classification
Rule 3.13
There shall be no limit to the number of players team managers may release from their frozen Official Online Roster. A player
released from a team’s frozen Official Online Roster shall be prohibited from returning to that team during the current season.

Point well taken , so where would one locate all the usssa rules for Georgia ?

Every team should take a copy of the rules with them to tournaments. There are so many variations to keep up with. Also, the umpires don't always know the rules off the top of their head. Especially if there are other tournaments that have variations to a certain rule.
Case in point, we were at the NC Super NIT last weekend. The team we were playing tries to re-enter the starting pitcher, who had stayed in the lineup. The umpire said that the rules allowed it. Make sure you know whether or not you qualified. Last year we played an early tournament when we knew we did not have our entire roster set. We got knocked out in the first round of bracket play - took I think 5th or 6th place. About a month later, we tried to update our roster with people we knew we'd be adding earlier, and got locked out of the system and could not make any more changes. Turns out the top 3 placing teams had already earned a berth and we got one by default. No one told us - had no idea and yet we were still frozen with our roster. Greg is right also, you cannot turn down a berth. We offered that and said we would attempt to requalify in another tournament. No go. We wound up not playing in any more USSSA tournaments. Be careful. |

Are there any rules concerning injuries? just wondering what happens if you max out a team, but have a player break an arm or something. Can he return based on rule 3.13 or would most coaches just keep him on the roster? |
